Bridge Crossing - Customs & Excise

Post by jackspratt » July 7, 2019, 12:02 pm

I need to do a crossing into Laos at Nong Khai later this month, and return of course.

Can anyone with recent experience report of the current state of play with the fiscal fiends, with respect to alcohol?

From past experience - from a few years ago however - they were not particularly fussed about wine, and concentrated mainly on spirits.

Is this still the case?

I'm always confused about how many can of beer you are allowed to bring. Some clarification would be much appreciated.

Can I ask, is buying booze, say Wine or Spirits in Laos any cheaper in Laos than buying it in Udon Thani?

There is the little corner Booz shop just down from immigration that often has prices that could actually match the Laos duty free or at least get close to them. It's worth checking as then you don't need to carry it all the way back

Thanks STWW

If it is available on the Thai side of the border, at a reasonable price, then no need for any hassles dragging it back in from Laos

Is this in Nong Khai or Udon Thani?

Just wondered how one enters the coordinates of 17.4062626 102.7902807 into the Google Map for Thailand, so that it automatically zooms to the place/location, or can't this be done?

I was referred to this shop as a source of cigars. He has a moderate selection of run-of-the-mill swisher and individual edward type coronas and cigarillos but nothing to write home about. They're in that front-facing display case on the right side entrance.

I need to check it out on my return for his booze selections. Fed up buying half decent port at airport duty free shops.

To continue on this subject (sort of) - does anyone have any recommendations on Vientiane hotels from recent experience, around US$40-50/night (TBH1200 - 1500).

Cheers

If you need to visit the Thai embassy then the one virtually opposite is serviceable, and extremely convenient, but if you don't want the embassy I'll pass on a recommendation.
