There is a variety of hotels depending on what price, whether you want a swimming pool or how close to the center of town.

Mekong royal hotel is on the river, has the best facilities except for costs in transportation to go to town,1000 baht(my choice)!
Panthawee Resort,400-1000 baht,best river beach situation,has a honeymoon suite,no pool,1/2 the distance to town!
Huan Li apartments ,center of town, basic clean,400 baht.Lot os friends have stayed here.
Several guest houses on the river walking street 150-400,close to falang resturants/bars!
Panthawee hotel, center of town, has all facilities, popular with tours, and guide books!I don't favor the owner, but it is very popular!
Grand hotel,1000-1200,pool,popular with hi-so Thais for weddings ,conventions, tours etc.Has rooftop entertainment ,on the main hiway,5 min. walk to town, pickup at airport avail.
There are several other small places in town and out of town. There is not a problem getting a room unless it is Songkron or Naga ball festival!

I tried the Pantawee last week. The C-type room was so grim I decided to spend triple and take the Penthouse at 2200baht a night instead. Well worth it for a short stay, as the cable Plasma TV alleviated some of the boredom of low season. If you do stay there go for at least a B room as they have been furnished some time in the last two decades. Good location close to the market, friendly staff. Don't bother with breakfast though.

Hi,

Do you know any cheap clean hotel in NONG KHAI center, not far from bus station or railway station ? Less than 1000thb, but around 500thb would be better.

Thanks.

NK Resort is near the train station, but inconvenient to the center of Town and I don't know about WiFi,there biggest draw is the pool!

Panthawee, also has a pool, central location and WiFi,a little more expensive.

KhiangKhong doesn't have a pool,but has WiFi and a great location,good value!

What's the attraction with wifi?
You can buy a decent hooker for the price increase you'd pay for your porn.
If you're a day trader, just think of the savings you'll realize by taking a day off.

absolutely correct, good coffee in the morning, "real" coffee too @ 30 baht
wifi here is good

I stayed at ruanthai next door, but moved after 1 night, I noticed my window was opened, then went to close it (1 AM) and saw a Thai guy lurking in the back alley............very unsettleing
