Any news here about a helicopter having to pull a farang out the Mekong off Nong Khai?
Apparently he was trying to swim accross to LOAS.

Did someone forget to mention there's a bridge near by?

had a friend who on a dare, swam on evening from Vientiane to Sri Chiang Mai, drank a beer offered by an amazed Thai, and then he jumped in and swam back over to Lao, landing just about 3km further downriver from where he started. Barefoot and dripping wet he flagged down a Tuk-tuk and went back to the riverside bar where he started, where he recovered his wallet and paid off the Tuk-tuk. Alcohol induced during the high waters of the rainy season... He was lucky he didn't get his brains bashed out by a speeding tree trunk.. Needless to say, he didn't pay any mind to the formalities of immigration..
