If somebody at UM has kept archives of all the old maps it sure would be "cool" if they could put together a little time-lapse video with them. How things have changed over the years!

Before udon map, if you wanted a map of the city, you either bought a 199Baht edition that had minimum street names in English, no landmarks in English, and no songtaew routes. If you wanted a free map, you went to the Charoensri Grand and asked for a map.......they'd give you a mimeographed (remember those?) one page map that was vintage 1970 GI era. One or two thai competitors have tried to mimic the printed edition of the map....catering to tourists..but they didn't last. Today, I can't imagine being a western tourist in the town without a copy in my hip pocket.
Although I don't use the printed edition much these days, I keep a copy in my truck to find a restaurant or street.
Best of all, it's free!

Before the genesis of UM this was one of the few maps available on line, it is 14 (possibly more) years old:

AEK and Panyaveh are in town, so the map is at least post 1998. I like the warning at the top....."Please be patient. The map is 96 Kbyte and very large. Please use score bar to travel around the map." Those were the days!! 96Kbyte!!
