Just had a call from mum in law in little village 10km outside Nong Han .......... bearing in mind she "lives" at the field in a shack and rarely visits her house in the village so has virtually no contact with other humans except by phone or the occasional visit with supplies ........ she has covid ....how I asked. Well the girl in the village who married the German guy, her family have visited for songkran and been out to the paddy for a chat ......
She says there are about 100 people currently at Nong Han hospital with suspected cases of covid

Stay safe people
Are we related! The MIL also lives about 10 KM's from Nong Han and is also living at the farm. Seems most of the family have had Covid now (flared up a month back) but as I understand they are not going to the hospital and not quarantining (apart from staying at the farm).

Nearly the whole village is already vaccinated and so really the risk is not that great of dying unless your on your last legs anyway.

I've known many people who have had Omicron and not one who had anything worse than flu like symptoms. My wife made a bit of a meal of it and decided to isolate herself in a spare room for a week. Was a great week by the way, no nagging for drinking beer and watching the cricket. Even the dog enjoyed living off takeaways with me for the week \:D/ \:D/

Has your Mother in Law been vaccinated? Mrs Dero had to drag her Mum kicking and screaming to the clinic. The olde "witch doctors league" had determined there is a curse on covid shots???? Being a diabetic she has no problem getting the jab for that - go figure!!!

Unless someone took a mobile van out to the farm, I suspect the answer is no (I might be wrong, but doubt it) S he only has face to face contact with anyone (whose not on Line or Facebook) about once a week when she goes into the village for supplies, or the very occasional visitor from out of town who goes to see her (as in this case no doubt). Mrs Statts is no different though ..... when she got covid weeks ago she admitted she had just stuck a plaster on her arm and pretended she'd been jabbed to stop me going on about it .... Dont yer just love Thailand

Missus is back with a cleaning vengence with stuff supplied by the hospital, so smells like moth balls and old socks now.
Noticed I am rather white, and it aint from lack of tan..Dont know what this covid does to ya, but must mess around with the blood cells or something..maybe it was my diet of toasted sandwiches for 14 days..

Observation: Back in February, cases were still nearly as high as now, but hardly anybody died. Death rate was under 1%. Now getting deaths on most reports, and death rate getting to, sometimes over 5%? Something has changed - obviously cases are under reported, but the question is, were deaths in February being under reported/incorrectly attributed? Hard to believe Thai Covid reports.

It's tough to believe any nation's stats when the general advice since omicron crashed the party is to self isolate and DIY retest with no imperative to report either. All nations except China seem hell bent on reopening ASAP as economies are decimated and the fear mongering over newer, and more dangerous variants isn't even on the back pages any more.

I recall the UK was worried that despite the low payload of omicron, the main fear was how random 5 to 10 day absences of infected NHS staff would impact the ability to respond to the more serious cases that would require hospitalization. The anticipated death toll from omicron wasn't expected to be any worse than delta and earlier variants.

However, if omicrons predicted 5 times more infectious than delta holds true, it's probably safe to say that in reality, infections are at least 5 times the reported rates?

As for the commensurate increase in deaths here, they never, ever got a handle on the older Thai public's vaccine hesitancy. Members earlier comments about older people's reluctance to get boosters is mirrored by my mother in law who refuses to get her second jab after a bad reaction to the first. Note that she didn't need hospitalization for that "bad reaction" either. It's cultural.

Just heard forum member FD Mike, his wife Nom and two other family members have caught the dreaded virus, hope it's not too serious and wish you all a speedy recovery.

Cali, he's providing information not calling out someone else's misfortune: 'Just heard forum member FD Mike, his wife Nom and two other family members have caught the dreaded virus, hope it's not too serious and wish you all a speedy recovery.' Indeed, he is showing sympathy for the family.

I do not know the background of either of those two people or cases, but the second one about covid just seems to be general information that is no way intended to be malicious. However, I get your point. The first one might be a hard fact if true in which the guy does seem to be penniless. It is sad for him and his family. The lesson for the rest of us might be, ensure you are financially prepared because bad health is surely coming for most of us.
