Isolate the infected person and close contacts and increased testing. With a little luck it works and stamps out an outbreak if caught early enough. Also restrictions on people's activities. All quite doable for another month for parts of the country although it will spread more than where it is now.

In the future there might be a virus so truly terrible, that many countries might be compelled to go for zero. Even countries such as the UK should have or be developing plans for that scenario. And then hope for a vaccine.

Wuhan locked their citizens up for months.

Lombardi in Italy did the same.

The UK had the army manning forced testing facilities. Then they rolled them out again for forced vaccinations in some areas.

All countries have already dabbled in trading hours, what type of business can operate as well as curfews.

So where will New Zealand's isolation facilities be? I recommend Bluff.

If you are talking restricted movements/LOckdowns then compare Wuhan to London and the Blitz
"April 8: Wuhan’s lockdown is lifted. Residents celebrate their freedom after 76 days with riverside parties while the city puts on a sound-and-light show emphasizing its resiliency and the courage and sacrifice of first responders.

I would hardly say that 76 days is considered months of lock down

The Blitz was
the Blitz, (September 7, 1940–May 11, 1941), intense bombing campaign undertaken by Nazi Germany against the United Kingdom during World War II. For eight months the Luftwaffe dropped bombs on London and other strategic cities across Britain. The

Compliance is falling in Auckland but if there's no Covid spreading in the South Island or lower North Island people will make a bigger effort to crush it. We should be building isolation facilities outside Auckland for the next pandemic. Until recently nearly all people with Covid were in isolation facilities (hotels). In Auckland that's less important now so more people are at home if that's suitable. Most Aucklanders and Kiwis would say Cindy should be returning us to normal life more quickly. The vaccine hesitant have had their chance to be vaccinated. The politics will be interesting.

The hairsplitter posts.

The key here is that the average month (singular) is 30.416 days. Therefore 76 days is commensurate with 2.498 months (plural). Even in Wuhan.

Nobody was locked away in their homes and relying totally on food and water deliveries during the 8.05 months (plural) of the Blitz.

Hope this helps.

So, are they building the quarantine pens in Bluff yet? New Zealand's very own Gitmo?

No, Bluff is too far away. Quarantine is hardly Gitmo. Before vaccination rates were high, many would have been happy to go into quarantine if that avoids them passing Covid to family members. It also makes it easier to get medical care (unless a sick person is well off). You're out of touch. Quarantine is no longer needed with Covid because of the high vaccination rates. I expect it will soon be ceased and 50% of Kiwis will get Covid over the next year.

^ I am out of touch?

You're the one who brought up Covid "elimination".

At least 50% of Kiwis MUST get Covid over the next year but realistically, they probably won't have a choice.

New government policy .. anyone who gets covid gets the housesos card ( sicko benefits ) so at least half the population are predicted to get covid .. from civil service , office workers to sleeveless concrete cutters n roadies all wanting a lump of the "im tired of working" handout.

Disclaimer
I cannot produce any link or evidence for this policy and ........Not all roadies are sleeveless .

It's called catching up with the real world. Happens after kicking the zero-Covid can down the road for too long.

BTW, the 50% is GT's postulation, I simply embellished it.

It's omicron BA.2 variant that's currently ripping up the old delta and omicron infection numbers. Aka the fifth wave.

I revise my opinion on GT's forecast and it will be AT LEAST 50% infected THIS year.

I hadn't seen that. Splendid.

I hope the poor lass can smile a bit about it now. NZers are probably more forgiving than Everton fans.
