Do you think the "shut down" may have contributed to the ongoing and CURRENT low infection numbers and mortality rate?

Asking for a friend.

Tam YES .............BUT

This decree /shutdown power control grab in the name of C19 is now shifting to just a hold on total power for as long as possible .. c19 will soon become a mere side show whilst the regs remain for the new normal which we all know is bollocks

So what's new? The night curfew was always a dodgy construct when it ran for six hours. I have absolutely no clue why, after two months, a four hour curfew serves any meaningful purpose. After all, four hours can easily be a short time if you are a charmer.

I'm sorry but I skipped the glorious Thaksin years while I went forth in the real world. The last government that ran roughshod over my Thai dream was headed up by Anand, the last true "independent" Thai PM (this is NOT an endorsement).

The emergency powers and curfew have the same purpose now as it did when it was introduced .
Keep the population , or the vast majority of it , poor and subservient .
Show them whos in charge and stop the rumbling of discontent that was gaining momentum prior to covid 19.

Hard to say, but the numbers from lockdown countries and non, don't seem to be that much difference, but of course you can argue that point into infinity.

Will say the shutting down of Songkran this year saved 4 to 5 hundred lives and thousands of injuries. So I guess the Thai Gov should now outlaw the Holiday, Right?

OTOH Vietnam had a lockdown/lockout that was strictly enforced. The result? No virus deaths, ZERO. And no new cases in over a month.

Thailand's Songkran cancellation was prescient but the May Day holiday and the proximity to Buddha days and the Royal Ploughing could have been a disaster. Maybe we are lucky in not having any more sequential, major public holidays in Thailand until the flu season officially begins. Keep in mind however that the government formerly known as the junta were quite happy to dole out extra, arbitrary holidays in their efforts to bring happiness to the people.

Meanwhile, after Memorial Day partying in Missouri...

Atleast there is one sensible person out there

"The agency also pointed out that Covid-19 cases had only been found in 10 provinces over the past 20 days, and there were less than 100 patients being treated in hospital. Hence, extending the state of emergency was illogical, iLaw said."

No. I posted what turned out to be fake news, learned that it was not true, and acknowledged same. If your "friend" does the same, his posts won't be moved, either. Your "friend" also should try to understand the difference between conspiracy theories and news reports which turn out to be untrue.
