The idea of the lockdowns is not stop to the virus but to slow it down ie flatten the curve
Slow it down till it can be vaccinated against is the best result

Guessing 6 months earlierest more likely 18 months
The reason for the slow down is stop to the hospitals been overwhelmed
The ecomony will crash anyway if the hospital system crashes
So what businesses survive 6 to 18 months only time will tell

"At he end of this" we may still have big corporations but the small businesses who employ most of the population will be long gone.
They are going under already and this thing is just warming up.
Their business debts are all tied to their personal wealth, so when trade stops it all comes crashing down, including paying people.
So. No retail, cafes, coffee shops, travel agencies, airlines, cruise ship companies, tire services, mechanics, etc, etc.
Hence, a 1930's depression.

Not to mention most countries are maxed out on debt already, so rescue operations are going to be i interesting to say the least.

Not rocket science, sh#t rolls downhill and its gaining pace as we speak.

So, lets just shut the world for a few more months.
That'll fix everything.

Like i said, the number of corona deaths in the future will be the least of our problems.

Forget the money markets if the world stays shut down for too long.

It's the worlds people that depend on money and products that will suffer.

Somebody should tell that to the panic buyers. My mate in the UK who's an essential worker only gets to do his shopping on a Sunday, his only day off work. For three weeks now, he's had a real challenge getting stuff. This past weekend was a bit better but he still couldn't find a loaf of bread anywhere. What really pissed him off was all the rotten bananas, veggies and other perishables piled on top of the munter's wheelie bins.

Sounds to me like healthy people have an unhealthy view of things. Wait until you or a family member have the virus and can't find a hospital bed. I haven't heard a single respected economist take the view of the economy taking priority over slowing/stopping the spread of the virus. Maybe I need to see what Marc Faber has to say about it all.....then again, not my cuppa tea.

If my memory serves me right, over the last couple of decades, we have had , Flu (annual event kills thousands globally ), Sars and Mers and H1N1, Hong Kong Flu , killing tens of thousands and YET not one business was shut, some may have been unemployed because of it but not the THOUSANDS currently .

Can anyone suggest a good reason why an illness CAUSED by a VIRUS like the aforementioned is making us shut down everything and committing economic Armageddon , I would really like to know, because for the life of me I fail to understand .
When I worked people had flu, I was not in quarantine , neither for any of the other aforementioned virus scares, but for this one OMG !!

I only started this thread to allow people to get prepared, "IF", it happens.
Unfortunately, from where I sit, it looks like it certainly will happen.

Just hope it's nowhere as bad as the 1930's, coz that was real bad.

And thats is only in the countries that didnt shut down quick enough
the flu has been around for while so the community as a whole has herd immunity
so only some each flu season are effected
No one had corvid 19 immunity so the whole population could get in in less than a month
Then it would be bring out your dead

When the flu first met humans, it would have had all that.
Now it's death rate is just slower than corona and not as dramatic, but occurs year after year with a much higher death toll than corona, (so far).
We are just used to living with the flu and have flu shots to help mitigate it.
Plus tons of research etc has been done on it.
We will soon be in the same situation with corona virus and then the media will forget about it because it will be old news.
Life as we now it will then continue on.

It is an unknown at present,
but there seems to be a massive amount of scientists around the world, all working together like never seen before, to find any way possible to alleviate, slow down,or cure it etc.

So, we are a long way from 50 million dead, and, because of the world wide efforts in place, I doubt that we will get anywhere near that, and I certainly hope not.

As you say, time will tell, but I'm pretty confident in modern medicine, so we just have to wait and see.

Heres a thought . The world was teetering on the edge of a recession well before China gave us her precious gift .
So this gift has just sped things up , although its going to last a lot longer and be harder than just a balancing of economies .
Would now not be a good time for companies and countries to start looking at their involvements and some dependence with China considering what is happening right now , and knowing the Chinese kept this a secret for who knows how long .
Do they really want to do business with people they cant trust , just for the corporate bottom line .
China never has and never will trade or do any business on a level playing field .
This time would be perfect to wean ourselves of China . Who knows , if they suffer financially , they may just follow the rules , any rules .
