Looks like 23 bht today for the Aussie dollar.
Might be a new year rise. Not sure why.

Has any Australian (he who still regularly uses his Australia passport) flown back to or tried to fly back to, Australia from Thailand in the last 4-5 months

If so I would appreciate any details of what you had to go through to get back in and who you flew back with.

^ Everything you need to know is available at the following, scroll down for repatriation information. Here's a bit of it below.

https://thailand.embassy.gov.au/

*IMPORTANT*

Regular updates on the situation in Thailand and travel opportunities to Australia are posted to the Australian Embassy’s Facebook page; Australia in Thailand

If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident and you\'re travelling or living in Thailand, you may wish to register with the Australian Embassy.

If you have already registered with the Embassy via email since March 2020, do not complete an online registration. For those who have not already registered with the Embassy, please do so here: https://covid19.dfat.gov.au. When prompted to provide your address, provide the address of your current location in Thailand, not your residential address in Australia.

Flights to Australia

If you wish to return to Australia, please look for commercial options. Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines group are flying to Australia.

Thai Airways will facilitate flights from Bangkok to Sydney every Sunday until the end of March 2021. These flights will depart at 18:50 in the evening on Sundays and will arrive in Sydney at 08:10 the following Monday morning.

Each flight will only be able to carry thirty-two (32) passengers. Please ensure you are registered with the embassy to ensure you receive further details on the price and how to register interest.

Entering Australia

From 20 March 2020, only Australian citizens, permanent residents and immediate family members (with exemption) can travel to Australia. For further information including how to apply for an exemption, please go to https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/

Quarantine on arrival in Australia

Everyone arriving in Australia must undertake a mandatory 14-day quarantine at designated facilities (for example, a hotel), at their port/city of arrival, regardless of final destination. If you’re due to arrive back in Australia soon, you may have to contribute to the cost of quarantine.

Individual states and territories have started to introduce their own quarantine arrangements and costs.

Some have an exemption period, where if you purchased your ticket before a certain date you will not be charged for quarantine.

Most states are offering payment plans, fee reductions and/or fee waivers for those experiencing financial hardship.

My Aussie mates experience from last year, it took about two months and being bounced off three consecutive repatriation flights before he got back home. There's a daily limit on the amount of Australians that can return from ALL nations and being moved to a later flight was very common during the peak of repatriation. Their embassy website or the airlines can best advise if this is any easier. He was in Phuket and returned to SYD via BKK and HKG on Cathay Pacific.

I am currently in Oz, having flown Bangkok/Singapore/Perth at the beginning of December. Flights were Singapore Air to Sing, and then Scoot to Perth. I was required to stay in a holding area at Changi for 17 hours due to the limited transfer flights, and did my 14 days quarantine in Perth at the Pan Pacific Hotel.

You can only transfer at Changi if you are utilising a flights within the Singapore Air group ie Singapore Air/Scoot/Silk Air, and the flights must be booked on a single ticket. You must be very careful to get all your ducks in a row before getting to your originating airport.

Unless there are flight cancellations, or other unforeseen problems, I will be returning to another 14 days of hotel quarantine in Bangkok on 1 February - this time Singapore Air to Sing (with 11 hours transit, but not confined in the terminal), and Scoot to Bangkok.

All information can be found here: https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/sg/m ... d=kataac8r

There have been some recent changes. Especially with reduction of people allowed to enter and the requirement for a PCR test prior to permission to board a flight.
Thai airways Bkk to Sydney is down to 25 passengers this Sunday.

Survivor advocate Grace Tame named Australian of the Year

"Grace Tame, the 26-year-old woman who fought to repeal a law that silenced Tasmanian sexual assault survivors, has been named the 2021 Australian of the Year.

Ms Tame, the first Tasmanian to earn the title and a survivor of sexual assault herself, delivered a powerful speech onstage at the National Arboretum as she accepted her award.

"I lost my virginity to a paedophile, I was 15, anorexic. He was 58, he was my teacher," she said.

"Publicly, he described his crimes as 'awesome' and 'enviable'. Publicly, I was silenced by law. ..."

As most have heard there are a number of "elite" tennis player squirling like stuck pigs about Australia's strict protocalls (one of the loudest came down the virus 55555).
Just listening to some interviews done by an American network = One girl complaining that she has never washed her own hair before and finding it difficult - 55555.
Then Serena Williams interview, what a breath of fresh air, stuck in quarantine with a 3 yo - had nothing but positive comments about how they were being treated and the Australian approach to the pandemic.

The Aussie lads came from far and wide to get in the action of WW1.
Would not have been to many sail from further than Hobart, Tassie.

Pontville/Brighton Australian army camp in Tasmania - WW1

Pontville, Tasmania. 1914-10-19. Members of the 9th Battery, 3rd Field Artillery Brigade (3FAB), formed up at the training camp where they had been for six weeks before embarkation for the Middle East the following day. On leaving the camp they marched through Hobart to Ocean Pier.

The Pontville Army Camp was renamed Brighton Army Camp, becoming the focus of military training in Tasmania on 13 August 1914. (Aussie Mobs)
