2 billion from AstraZeneca and another 1 billion produced in India (Serum Institute of India) for a vaccine that will not be proved safe or effective for another 12 to 18 months.

Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.

Question
Have any members had or enquired in regard to Covid PCR test at any of the UT hospitals?
Specifically the 3 day prior to travel PCR test required by many countries.

Bangkok Hospital. 4500 baht. Includes letter of test result but not 'Fit to Fly' letter (on request at no additional charge). Test one day, results received the next day. Available 7 days a week. Can do as walk-in but best make an appointment.

^ I guess they just got the memo that there won't be any charter flights chock full of well-heeled Chinese coming any time soon so better suck up to the "captive audience" they already have.

This is an interesting read if you are wondering about the process of entry into Thailand. The experience of a well known Expat going through quarantine at the moment. IMHO the food looks like cr#p but there is some reasonable advice.

Basically what my wife as a Thai citizen had to go through when arriving from U.S. Difference was free government provided hotel in Pattaya and food not as good, so a few times she special ordered meal. Also no such thing as leaving room at all before departure to Udon.

Japan lowered its infection risk advisory level for Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, New Zealand, Brunei and Vietnam, besides China, South Korea and Australia, to level two from level three, telling its citizens to avoid non-urgent, non-essential trips.

The number of new coronavirus cases recorded in a single day in the United States topped 100,000 for the first time Wednesday, setting a record in the monthslong pandemic, NBC News data show.

Denmark is set to cull up to 17 million mink, after a mutation of the coronavirus was found to spread from the animals to humans.
Virus strains in mink and humans were found to be less sensitive to antibodies
The mutated strain could effect the development of an effective vaccine
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the new virus strain was found in 12 people who got infected by mink.

What I think about this,
is the virus will be unstoppable
vaccines in production will be out of date before they are used

Makes sense with all these seasonal second-wave spikes in the cooler, more temperate climes and the only +ve's being found in repatriated Thai nationals and returning foreigners.

I read the following opinion in the Bangkok Post last week and was quite surprised by how dismissive it was to the Thai government's current STV dickabout and suggesting somewhat more visionary options.

Then I noticed it was penned by one of those interfering and know-it-all farangs.

^ Only if Thailand signs up to one of the 'Covid travel passport' regimes that the likes of Hong Kong and Singapore have been developing and trialling for regional travel. This would require Thailand to use common or shared test, track and trace systems as the other participants and their airlines. That would be a tall order without a vaccine so I would see any 'travel club' nations also needing to agree on what vaccine they will use and also how it is being deployed.
