Surely you are having a lend, Justin.
Archbishop of Canterbury invites public to pledge allegiance to K i n g Charles III during coronation

Members of the public have been asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury to pledge their allegiance to the new monarch out loud during K i n g Charles III's coronation, in a new addition to the ancient ceremony.
"I call upon all persons of goodwill in The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of the other Realms and the Territories, to make their homage, in heart and voice, to their undoubted K i n g, defender of all."
The public is then asked to state the following:
"I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law.
So help me God."
The bishop then says "God save The K i n g", to which all are asked to reply "God save K i n g Charles, long live K i n g Charles, may The K i n g live for ever."

Live forever!

He will be 75 this year. Even given his parents lived through until their 90's and Granny topped the ton, live forever is a bit ambitious. How about 'A long and happy life'.

Or Maybe Justin's boss told him an inside story.

Why oh why would God help?

I thought he was supposed to be against paying allegiance to false idols

Well, perhaps 'God' is a false idol himself. God save individual Charles, long live individual Charles, may an individual live forever. Is that last hope true? Who lives forever? Elvis didn't even make it to 45!.

What a load of pompous poppycock.

Bread and circuses for the over-50s, still believing in the greatness of the Empire.

It's just tradition, part of the bread and circuses routine.

The Stone of Scone has nothing to do with Empire, it predates the British Empire by many centuries. The Coronation is all about tradition, or would you rather they pop down to the local Wimpy's for a feed of bangers, chips and baked beans and pop the crown on Chuck's head while the waitresses all applaud?

That sounds like a plan - so long as they all swear allegiance of course. ;)

As it has been used since 1296, historically it is significant and who are we mere ortals ( average life span of less than one hundred years ) to decry its use.

Tradition is everything ti ensure stability and continuance of general peace, or would you rather the opposite `.

The shenanigans at Westminster Abbey clashes with the Dogs - Giants game in Canberra tomorrow night. So won't be watching the Geelong Grammar old boy and his Mrs (with a head like a horse) getting crowned. Hopefully takes us one step closer to being a republic. What a waste of money [-X The Bolsheviks had the best solution to hereditary monarchy.

Beginning to think that its about time the colonies were reminded of what they are ....... far flung outposts of HM realm.
Theres one lot that given the chance to look after themselves end up with half the population shooting the other half and then theres the Southern Colonies who's moral standards are so low they cant even be trusted not to cheat at cricket
Now were back to having a guy in charge things will need to change .......70 yrs of female dithering need to be rectified

It's just a stone.

Anyway, it's a sop to the great unwashed as they need to believe in something after being serrially hosed by successive governments of all colors.

Elvis is dead.

And Christmas is pretty rubbish after Santa went to work for Hallmark.

A 100 million quid, eh? Hardly enough to make Everton's payroll, lah?

Sign o' the times, no? The only argument that people seem to offer these days is for the extremes. Maybe they think it's cool to get a cob on, go postal and clamor for the nuclear option at every percieved slight or grievance. It's a big herd mind you. I blame the media and an educational system that doesn't encourage critical thinking any more.

You probably haven't noticed - but things have moved on since 1296.

Particularly so, for us ortals.
