He didn't get full retirement from the post office after only working 3 years. There's more to the story than that, if it's even true. Full pension is minimum 30 years. You have to work at the post office for at least 5 years and you can retire at age 62, but the pension is greatly reduced. Three years at around 55 years old, he wouldn't have gotten anything.glalt wrote: ↑August 18, 2020, 9:40 amI know a guy who crushed a testicle riding in the back of an army pickup truck while in the US. The government gave him a permanent partial disability. When he got out of the army, the post office hired him. He was employed there for about three years and they gave him full retirement at about age 55. He lived very well off the two government pensions and never worked again. As far as the crushed testicle disability, he enjoyed two trips a year to Pattaya. The USPS doling out undeserved pensions is one reason they are operating at huge losses.

OPM, not the postal service, determines the retirement benefits for ALL federal employees. The postal service only contributes into the retirement system, they have no control or say so on who gets what. Once a person retires from the postal service OPM makes all the determinations on the benefits, which is no different than any other federal employee. And it's not a postal service pension, prior to 1984 it was CSRS, now it is FERS.

The guy with the crushed nut liked to brag about his generous pensions. I asked him how he managed to get a fat pension from the post office at age 55. He said they offered it and he took it.Kenr6583 wrote: ↑August 18, 2020, 11:23 amOPM, not the postal service, determines the retirement benefits for ALL federal employees. Biden or trump American politics are at the lowest point ever reached, with a population of 360 million you would expect at least one with the proper credentials to come out of the pack
Re: Trump ratings soaring amid crisis
Post Office doesn't have the authority to offer it, only OPM. It is not optional, you MUST have at least five years civilian service in the federal government in order to receive a pension, and if you are only there for 5 years you must be at least 62 years old. That guy is full of s***. And you sure don't get a full pension, not even close, at 5 years and 62 years of age.glalt wrote: ↑August 19, 2020, 7:56 pmThe guy with the crushed nut liked to brag about his generous pensions. He said that his time in the army also counted toward a civil service pension. Think whatever you want but I believed him.

And thereby lies the real problem. Believing barstool bullshyters and YouTube.

Re: Trump ratings soaring amid crisis
The military is not civilian service. As I already stated twice, you MUST have five years minimum civilian service in order to get a pension under CSRS or FERS, there are no exceptions. My 4 years of military service counts towards my pension, which I had to buy back, but it does not count towards the 5-year minimum civilian service required.
I could retire at MRA, which in my case is 56 years and 2 months, under CSRS or FERS with full benefits with 26 years of civilian service and 4 years of bought back military service.
I COULD NOT retire under CSRS or FERS with any benefits with 4 years of civilian service and 26 years of bought back military service.

And hypothetically, if that guy had that much military service in order for him to get a full pension from CSRS, he would have been better off getting a military pension, it would have been a lot more. Buying back around 27 years military service would have broke him.

I think the US has systemic problems with its political system. This results in many unsuitable and even nutbar people getting elected. Just look at some of the characters in Congress. Particularly Republicans.dunroaming wrote: ↑August 19, 2020, 8:13 pmBiden or trump American politics are at the lowest point ever reached, with a population of 360 million you would expect at least one with the proper credentials to come out of the pack

Although this is a(nother) Trump-centric thread, the non-suitability of elected lawmakers isn't unique to the US. Just look at Boris Johnson's team of half-wits and sycophantic dullards in the UK.GT93 wrote: ↑August 20, 2020, 12:43 amI think the US has systemic problems with its political system. And the hits just keep on comin'...
Re: Trump ratings soaring amid crisis
When will people figure out that most politicians, especially career politicians and their families are corrupt? They obviously didn't get that wealthy from their pay. The worst part is that congress decides who is corrupt or not. Congress is not likely to clean itself up. Until they develop a conscience, this is not going to change. What are the chances that they will develop a conscience? Those chances are slim to none.

But neither Bannon or Trump are or were career politicians.glalt wrote: ↑August 21, 2020, 10:39 amWhen will people figure out that most politicians, especially career politicians and their families are corrupt? Actually your statement is not correct. Congress did impeach Trump. Fact.glalt wrote: ↑August 21, 2020, 10:39 amWhen will people figure out that most politicians, especially career politicians and their families are corrupt? Always entertaining to read your stuff. We need 4 more years of Trump because he is not corrupt, is a moral person, is a good leader, has a conscience, doesn't whine everyday, isn't a raving lunatic, is focused on uniting the country, etc. etc. LOLglalt wrote: ↑August 21, 2020, 10:39 amWhen will people figure out that most politicians, especially career politicians and their families are corrupt?
