Immigration Office Appointment

Post by tutone » March 14, 2022, 5:55 am

Has anyone used the immigration online appointment service, specifically for getting an extension of stay based on retirement? What was your opinion of the service? Is it required or necessary? Was your experience as you expected it should be? Replies are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Wasn't required when I renewed mine in late December. Excellent service, into the K/Bank to get my statement and letter at 08:30, walked across the road to immigration and was out, done and dusted by 09:15. Was a Wednesday.

you might go by and ask what's the best time and day. I did my 90 day today and there were a lot of Viets and Lao clogging up the waiting area outside...

Yes, Monday is often busy. i did my extension on a Monday in early January, and, as said by FrazeeDK, loads of migrant workers and their agents clogging the queues up, had to wait for 2 hours. Normally seen in under an hour. After lunch is even better as long as you have everything ready. I do not think they are running any online booking in Udon yet.

There's no evidence that Udon Thani Immigration is running an online appointment booking system.

If you are able to visit Udon before your extension, it would be prescient to drop by immigration in the afternoon and check their latest advice. Mornings and Monday and Tuesday seem to be busiest and best avoided. Also need to check the calendar if there's any local holidays that may cause a last-minute surge. They may then make a note of your due date and expect you and like other members have experienced, be in and out before brunch.

Or you can call and/or email them. E-mail should be brief and to the point and not list alternatives in a question by using 'or'. A simple question gets a simple answer (hopefully). A question suggesting alternatives may just get more confusion.

Not sure if the appended phone and email is correct as I have never needed to use them.

My timing preference for the past several years:
Never on Monday or day after a holiday.
Never in the morning. Always PM, and prefer after 2PM
Never wait til the last day/week.
Works for me

However actually paying attention to it at the moment is another matter.

^ I stand corrected.

Since nobody else with quite recent experience at Udon Immigration has tried it, it was a 50/50 call anyway.

Now someone can try it and report back.

If you provide a link that is.

YMMV

Though from TV
I did my retirement extension at the flash new Buri Ram office last week, and made an online appointment for 10:00. I've never had to wait any length of time on previous visits, but just wanted to try it out. I printed a screen shot of the 10:00 confirmation time they'd emailed me and put it on top of my completed forms - they actually sent two emails, once immediately after I made the appointment, and a reminder the day before it was due, giving me some confidence that the system was working. I arrived there from the bank at 09:30, and there was one other person being attended to. They collected my paperwork, and obviously checked it out the back, since, as soon as that person was finished, I was sat down in front of an officer and stamp, stamp, stamp, done, walking out at about 09:45. I asked about the online appointment and was told that, had there been a queue, I would have been first in line to get mine done at 10:00, so worth spending a minute or two on the computer beforehand if there was ever a run on the office.

^Excellent!

I hope that tutone and Old Grumpy both try it and report back with the good news.

In my experience with appointments in Thailand, getting in earlier has generally meant being attended to earlier when they are not busy.

But some members aren't retired, rufty tufty big oil and gas men like you and me and they need belt and braces (suspenders for the sepos) to do stuff what we do easily in our sleep BD.

Also, some may be more challenged logistically and need affirmation of the easy knock? It would be a bugger to drive a hundred clicks just to front up at the same time as (another) horde of Lao and Viet are queuing up for (another last) covid extension.
