Thailand’s cabinet has approved a second automatic visa extension for foreigners for three more months. The extended amnesty is a bid to prevent long queues at immigration centres around the country.

Narumon Pinyosinwat, spokeswoman for the Thai government, says they want to stem the spread of the coronavirus and avoid foreigners having to wait in lines and threaten their own health and the health of immigration officials.

“Foreigners whose visas had expired since March 26 will be permitted to stay until July 30 without having to apply for an extension.”

Thailand has has recorded 2,811 coronavirus cases and 48 fatalities. 189 new cases were announced today.

There doesn’t appear to be any official documented statement about this from the government. The first this article was published was by RT Russian TV Media & it’s been picked up by other media worldwide even Reuter’s often word for word.

No official announcement yet by the Thai government

Nope, I’m still not convinced, that link is just to another article in the press copied word for word from the original Russian article.

Before I get all excited I’ll wait for an official announcement from either the government or immigration like the original extension until April 30th

Not disputing that. Just saying I’ll wait for the official release giving the facts before I get a hard on.

As a side note, apparently this has now appeared on the published minutes of the meeting held today. It still needs rubber stamping but I guess that’s just a formality at this stage

I would suggest trying online first, as that is continuing to work. And the order will have been published in the gazette probably by the end of this week or early next week.

There is no mention in the English translation but on the Thai news site the 90 day reporting suspension is mentioned

As I posted above. But you have the date wrong.

It is not yet law as it still needs to be published in the gazette.
