Not unexpected. Been mentioned for quite a while now.
Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
Any ideas on what the premiums might be for the level of coverage needed?
What might say a 70 year old farang pay?

Around the 9,000 THB mark a month for a solid policy.
Voiceover for hire.
Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
I think we need more clarity on the the subject of medical insurance. Surely if a person has more than the stated funds in the bank that would be sufficient...
Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
That sounds very cheap for a 70 year old's medical insurance. I know of quite a few who pay way more than that with quite a long list of exclusions as well. Would be interesting to know who the provider is at that price (less than 2.5K UK quid/annum)
Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
I have just had a quick look at longstay.tgia.org Viriyah appear to be about the cheapest 70-75 8000 baht per month.

Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
I have a feeling this news article was a paid prompt by some insurance entity(s) that stands to profit from having us foreigners click on these websites and get scared into buying a policy from them out of sheer paranoia. I think the government is light years away from nailing down some firm rules and regs on requiring us to have health insurance. Immigration would have it's hands full since they are already having many problems with trying to figure out how to enforce the change in rules pertaining to annual extensions of stay. I'm certainly not going to run out and pay a 94,000 Baht annual premium for only 404,000 Baht in coverage per disability. That's insane!

Wait for a month or so and it will change One reason is the quote at the bottom of the article
"Asked about foreigners who cannot buy health insurance because their health risks are considered too high, Nattawuth said relevant authorities might consider requiring them to have higher deposits in bank accounts so as to make sure that they have enough to live in Thailand. "
This value still needs to be set so therefore the policy change isn't quite finished yet

Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
I would like to see original text or Thai version. Now this seems to be NON-OX rule applied to NON-OA and nothing more.
the new rule applies to both new applicants for the non-immigrant visa (O-A), which offers a stay of up to one year, and those wishing to renew their visa.
It applied to NON-O retirement, new rule about having 400 000 thb in account whole year would be understable.
Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
Time to stop faffing about and simply deposit 1 million baht in a new, immigration-specific account and don't touch it.
Ever.
Ever.

all these storms in a glass of water because many people can not read comprehensibly?
Col Kathathorn also confirmed that the new insurance requirement applies only to Non-Immigrant O-A "retirement" visas.

Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
there have been so many (false ) rumors about visa extension or what ever you want to call it , it is always wise to wait what the future really will brings ...so i will wait and see..but surely not start panicking
Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
Whether it's increasing the bank requirements or having health insurance or a sudden case of extreme case of xenophobia, plan B should be everyone's fallback position. You may never need it, but, like any insurance policy, it makes getting a good night's sleep a whole lot easier.

Re: Insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners
Sir, I wouldn't trust that English translation pertaining to retirement visas. As I understand it, any Non-Immigrant O-A could be an extension of stay based on retirement, marriage or a number of other categories. I'm sure the word "retirement" was loosly used here.kopkei wrote: ↑May 14, 2019, 3:12 pmall these storms in a glass of water because many people can not read comprehensibly?
