climate change

Post by noosard » August 9, 2022, 9:03 am

Climate change is causing the widespread warming of our land, oceans and atmosphere. Apart from this, it also has the potential to increase volcanic activity, affect the size of eruptions, and alter the "cooling effect" that follows volcanic eruptions.
Please explain the volcanic changes due to the sudden increase of temps due to climate change
now this one belongs at Fridays FES meeting

expect better from ABC
maybe they looking for a seat at the table

If you are looking for an explanation, just read the rest of the article, rather than stopping after the third paragraph.

And if you still don't understand, maybe invite the author to Friday's UFES. 8)

Some scientists suspect increased rainfall led to the damaging 2018 Kīlauea eruption in Hawaii. This was preceded by months of heavy rainfall, which infiltrated the earth and increased underground water pressure within the porous rock. They believe this could have weakened and fractured the rock, facilitating the movement of magma and triggering the eruption.

But other experts disagree, and say there's no substantial link between rainfall events and eruptions at Kīlauea volcano.

Fit in well at FES

As the climate warms, research shows this will change how volcanic gases interact with the atmosphere. Importantly, the outcome won't be the same for all eruptions.

Just more of maybe could be
Lets take a guess

There's only one active volcano in Norway but the reservoirs that feed their prolific hydro-electric power generation industry are at their lowest levels in memory. This has had such an impact on their domestic power supply that they are planning reducing the amount they export to the UK who, in lieu of gas from Russia, had inked special deals with Norway for this year's winter electricity supplies only a few short (hot and dry) summer months ago.

Any Noggies at the FES these days?

It may be interesting scientifically, but i doubt that any small increase in Volcanic eruptions will have any significant long term effect on our climate. SO2 aerosols only last a year or two. Unless we get a super volcano eruption like Yellowstone, which MIGHT make a difference. Would certainly knock the USA for 6.

Got to agree with the broad sentiment presented here. The idea of unseasonably wet weather causing instability of the shallow sub-surface and thus causing volcanoes to pop like a squeezed zit is a stretch of the genuine narrative of global warming. Climate change is real enough without the embellishments of unfounded and unscientific 'theory'. Same as long Covid IMHO. A bad situation that's not made any easier by some spurious happenstance that's not been fully researched. The medical physiological equivalent is called a premature ejaculation.

Now I'm off to wash my hands.

No birdies here.
Climate activists in southern France have filled golf course holes with cement to protest against the exemption of golf greens from water bans amid the country's severe drought.

Good idea. In the same area, some villages now have no water, Has to be trucked in. Rivers are dry, animals dying. But Golf courses have priority. Influence matters, what an insane world we live in.

Climate zealots are clutching at straws.
The reefs are not disappearing, the islands aren’t being inundated by the seas, so now it’s volcanoes.
Give me a break.

I bow down to the man who knows all about all. Keep believing your abc.

So soon there will only be airports in the Maldives above the sea level?

I am no expert on the Maldives, all I really know is that Barney's posts are typically BS. The one on this thread is no exception

The global warming can o' worms explained by Jordan Peterson

Peddlers of environmental doom have shown their true totalitarian colours

Corporations and utopians are offering authoritarian solutions to crises only democracy and free markets can solve

"Critics of my view will say “we have to accept limits to growth.” Fine. Accept them. Personally. Abandon your position of planet-devouring wealthy privilege. Join an ascetic order. Graze with the cattle. Or, if that’s too much (and it probably is) then purchase an electric car, if you want one (but no diesel-powered emergency backup vehicle or electric power generator for you). Buy some stock in Tesla. That’s probably the best bet (but you don’t approve of Elon Musk, do you?). Stop flying. Stop driving, for that matter. Get on your bike, instead. In your three-piece business suit. In the winter, if you dare. I’ll splash you with icy and salty slush as I drive by, in my evil but warm Ford Bronco SUV, and help you derive the consequent delicate pleasure of your own narcissistic martyrdom. "

It wasn't "his" ABC - the link is from ABC America. And seems to pretty clearly express the anxieties of those living in the Maldives.

The airport thing is a red herring.
