For anyone interested in History (General or Family) try the UK National Archives.

If you register (Free) you can download up to 100 items on a rolling 30 day period totally free (usually costs about 2 - 10
quid an item).

If you just log in and type your surname in the "search" it will probably come up with a load of strange info from Ancestors divorce records, wills from 15th century, world war prisoner records coroners records etc etc

The Public Records Office at Kew was helpful to me in tracing ancestors back to the 16th century.
You only pass through this life once, you don't come back for an encore.
