Great Old Movies on YouTube

Post by Lone Star » October 3, 2019, 6:13 am

.

I have recently run across dozens -- maybe hundreds of old b/w movies that are available free on YouTube. Some great world-famous actors in many of them.

The Stranger - with Orson Welles, Edward G. Robinson and Loretta Young

Just some friendly information for expats when they may be bored and want to go back in time a bit.

Man In The Attic

Watched this one last week. A movie about Jack the Ripper with Jack Palance starring.

I noticed they never show anything about the violence of the attacks. Not even the bodies when found. Only the horror on the faces of the policemen who discover the murders. That would never fly in today's movie world. 555

^ Being in my seventies and belonging to an America long gone, I enjoy the old movies. In the early fifties Loretta Young featured a series of TV half-hour presentations which were both entertaining and uplifting. I have a great many of these in my own movie library and frequently search for more on you tube.

Loretta Young

One of the classic beauties. Her name used to roll off my mother's tongue in a lyrical way every time see saw Loretta Young appear on television. I can still hear the way she said it. 555

Just for a laugh the other night I watched Frankenstein meets the wolfman.really enjoyed it.. can't say I enjoy much TV nowdays. All bombs and explosions and cars racing about. Talk about implausible, the wolfman meets Frankenstein made more sense

Scarlet Street (1945)

Good one. Enjoyed it.

Reminded me of some of the horror stories of expats here who allow themselves to be scammed.

OK; so let us go the whole hog, in a single post, instead of five or six individual ones!!
If you were to be stuck on a desert island, (Udon?),and could only have with you TWELVE MOVIES, which twelve would you select.
Remember you get one chance, without subsequent additions, or 'second thoughts' alterations, to your original selections!
To get you started, here are my twelve selections:
1. Mutiny on the Bounty, 1930.
2. Captain Blood, 1935.
3. Goodbye Mr. Chips, 1939.
4. Gone with the Wind, 1939.
5. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, 1954.
6. Ben Hur, 1959.
7. Inherit the Wind, 1960.
8. The Magnificent Seven, 1960.
9. Zulu, 1964.
10.Lawrence of Arabia, 1962.
11.In the Heat of the Night, 1967.
12.The Towering Inferno, 1974.

Not sure how far back the actual start year would apply, but around '74 there was a movie called "Alvin Purple" and "Alvin Rides Again". Shows the true culture of Australia at the time.
