Flying Bugs

Anyone else getting "bugged" by these beauties..... been hard work sitting outside without being dive bombed every couple of minutes.

แมงหัวแข็ง (maang hua khang), literally "hard head bug" commonly called "stem boring grub". In Isaan it's called แมงกอก (maang gawk) = olive bug. Mrs. Shado says they are often found in the local olive trees.

It's actually a longhorn beetle (not a bug), called the Mango-tree Longicorn Borer.

Yes, แมง (maang/maeng) is just the Thai prefix for bug and arthropod names.

Some time back I was reminded of one of the reasons I wear a helmet with a pull down shield. I was cruising along and hit some kind of huge bug. I actually pulled over to see if the shield was damaged. It wasn't damaged but that bug hit hard enough that I'm sure my face would have been. I use a Nolan Air that was expensive but it has great air flow through the helmet.

Many moons ago i was driving through the New Forest back roads in a convertible , cruising about 60 MPH , when something hit me between the eyes . I thought i had been shot .
Stopped the car and on the floor under my feet was an acorn , an acorn , who would of thought that could hurt so much , but it did .
Anyways back to bugs . I hate bugs . Anything with more than 4 legs is never normal.
