3/4 A THIRD Amazing Place Built by the same Man!

Post by milkman » July 3, 2017, 3:40 pm

Wow! It turns out Ancient City Bangkok and the second place I listed, Erawan Museum, were both built by the same wealthy businessman, Lek Viriyaphant. Best of all, I found out he's got a 3rd fantastic project you can view, the Sanctuary of Truth, in Pattaya. Looks simply amazing!: https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=sa ... ORM=IARRTH

Wikipedia says of it: Sanctuary of Truth is a religious construction in Pattaya, Thailand. The sanctuary is an all-wood building filled with sculptures based on traditional Buddhist and Hindu motifs. The top of the building is 105 meters high, and the building covers an area of more than two rai. It features contemporary Visionary art based on traditional religious themes. The project was initiated as an idea of Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant in 1981, and is scheduled to be complete in 2050.

Thai Red Cross Snake Farm (and show) about 400 meters west of Lumpini Park on the north side of Rama IV Road http://www.saovabha.com/en/snakefarm_service.asp

Wat Traimit on the west side of China town.. Huge solid gold Buddha statue at the top of the stupa and a Thai-Chinese history museum below it that shows the history of Thai Chinese and Yaowarat (China Town) http://www.bangkok.com/attraction-temple/wat-raimit.htm

Baiyoke Tower II.. formerly the tallest building in Bangkok with an open viewing platform near the top. http://www.bangkok.com/magazine/baiyoke-tower-II.htm

Jim Thompson House.. classical teakwood extended Thai house built by the famous silk trader Jim Thompson. Located just west of the MBK/Siam Discovery area and beside Kong Saensap. http://www.jimthompsonhouse.com/

Temple of the Golden Mount/Wat Saket. Located northeast of the Grand Palace about a kilometer or more.. The actual Temple mount was built over a mass grave of bodies who died in an edidemic. Good views from the top but a healthy climb up the trail/stairs that wind around the Temple. To the northeast of the Temple Mount is Wat Saket which has some fantastic paintings inside the sanctuary.. http://www.bangkok.com/attraction-temple/wat-saket.htm

There are innumerable short trips to attractions around Bangkok that will take up perhaps 3-4 hours of your time... Depending up the time of the year and the heat, that may be all the touring you want to do before either retreating to your hotel or going into one of the huge malls that are in Central Bangkok.

That's very helpful, thanks.
Wat - raimit and Wat - saket/Golden mound should fill in one day, and the Ancient City and Erawat museum should take care of the second day.
That'll keep me out of the bars, well during the daytime anyway !
Thanks again.
