Previously we had the nonsense Spice girls and now Meghan Traynor,Taylor Swift and Bieber. All commercialised nonsense and making millions from crap music thanks to teens. Not to everyones taste I suppose but I was in the Punk and heavy rock era

Royal Blood who just won an award at the BRITS if you like heavier stuff =D>

A subject close to my heart. You won't find a bigger music fan than me. I was an original punk from '75 with New York Dolls through Bowie, New Romantic to thrash metal, I love it all.

There is too much music snobbery though and to dismiss, for example, Taylor Swift is wrong. Take the time to listen to her album "Red" and there are some moments of brilliance. As for, Bay City Rollers, I have a soft spot for them as, in my teens, I apparently looked like Derek and had to beat off the girls with a sh*tty stick.

My parents had 6 boys....all grew up with the music of the late 50's and 60's. To my parents, great musicians were Bing Crosby, Herb Albert, Perry Como, Peggy Lee, Tony Bennett........and nothing but nothing satisfied their souls like an hour of Lawrence Welk or, better yet, a show by Liberace on the piano. Of course, the 6 of us had none of that, instead delving into the underground (our cellar) with The Who, Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, The Mamas and Papas, The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd.
I see little difference between a show person like Liberace and Lady Gaga....except, Lady Gaga can sing as well as put on a show.
Times change....we're all becoming dinosaurs.

The following might not be good in the sense that early Elvis, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis were great, but it is fun music with a good beat and makes people (middle-aged) happy:

It is performed by the Lao lady in my avatar.

It is easy for those of us who came of age in the sixties and seventies to bemoan the lack of musical talent in the present day. But what genres of present day music music are we exposed to? And by what media are these genres brought to our sensitive ears? We are listening to contemporay pop music and reading about celebrity pop stars. We hear them via television and read about them in the popular press.

When I was younger I went to see Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and a whole range of blues bands. I did not see these artists on television or read about them in the morning paper. Word was passed by mouth; in student union bars, in coffee shops, in pubs, and in clubs. Nowadays I am far too old to frequent any teenage hang-outs, so I don't really know whether there are still any talented artists playing the same sort of venues at which I saw my own particular favourites when I was a young man. but I am confident that there must be.

I have been to the Salaya campus of Mahidol University (about halfway between Bangkok and Nakorn Pathom) on a number of occasions. This university has a renowned Faculty of Music which turns out excellent jazz and classical musicians. A stroll around the campus is rewarded with the spectacle of numerous groups of young musicains practicing, both formally and informally, evry type of music under the sun.

It's not that there is no good music anymore. ii's just that it's harder to find when one is an old fart, but when it is found the pleasure is indeed unallayed.

Excellent. In other words, good music is all around us if we just open our eyes and our ears to it.

Like good music? Stream radio station @ "Classic Hits" 4KQ from Brisbane.

Has a few adds and some typical radio station nonsense but all in all great entertainment, 24/7, for we baby boomers!
Sent from my 1977 Apple II using 2 Heinz bake bean cans and piano wire!
