They could always use some of the 19 billion that Woodside's going to "donate" in direct tax revenues from their Scarborough development over it's projected +30-year life-of-field. The nuclear reactor could be finished and online in time to take up the power load.

Future-proofing energy supplies will only get more expensive the more they kick the can down the road.

The SNP are going to make a dramatic move to exploit Scotland's oil industry to the benefit of the country and the Empire. This is a refreshing initiative and should help boost the economy of Aberdeen and its environs. Whoops! What does it mean that this is a symbolic move.

The SNP has signalled it is ready to drop its opposition to new oil and gas developments as it ditches longstanding green stances.

John Swinney, the first minister, said on Sunday that he had launched an “exploration” of the North Sea policy he had inherited from his predecessors Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf.

Prominent nationalists — including Stephen Flynn, the Westminster leader and Aberdeen South MSP — are understood to fear that the party’s hard line on fossil fuels could cost it battleground seats in the northeast.

The SNP has also quietly dropped nationwide targets on household recycling, which it had failed to reach.

The Scottish government’s stance on new oil and gas licences is largely symbolic as they are a matter for the UK government.

It means if (Westminster) Labour says death to all UK oil and gas exploration, the hapless new, "dropped in the s**t" leader of the SNP will still need to sing for his supper.

Or, he could buy new tires for the "independence" camper van (after Police Scotland no longer need it for evidence).

So the SNP have put self-preservation before environment. Politicians nearly always prioritise themselves before country.

Politicians and capitalists are hell bent on selling the last drop of oil, and bugger the consequences. And not just in the UK. Those good intentions and targets from COP (always optimistic, I predicted 4 years ago that the 1.5 degrees of warming target would be hit this decade, not in the mid 2030s, and this past year has already been reached).

Ok, so far 95% of people (a guess) haven't been badly affected, just wait another 10 years and see what the results are.

The SNP's previous act of being willing bedfellows of the Greens was also an act of self preservation. Their coalition ultimately enabled them to shaft themselves, the Greens and a majority of Scottish people.

The Tories are done north of the border so it would be a colossal toe-stub if Labour didn't make significant gains up north. Whether they'll stand by their election promise of ending O&G exploration on the UK continental shelf remains to be seen.

The argument that killing local production and the ensuing increased dependency on fossil fuel imports will increase global carbon emissions is a sound one. But that makes Scotland's environmental betterment a loss for those imperiled south sea islanders where a mere few inches of tidal change means the end of their tenuous grip on civilisation. All this while handily filling the boots of the world's biggest exporters.

Now, what's this I read about the great UK heat pump rip-off/scandal?

Will this become a hot issue in the election campaign at least in Scotland?
Labour agent’s firm threatens to quit North Sea over Starmer plans
Deltic warns it could be forced to withdraw from Pensacola licence because of investors’ fears over energy transition policies

Dave Doogan, the SNP candidate for Angus & Perthshire Glens, said: “Keir Starmer is just as clueless as the Tories when it comes to the Scottish energy industry — even his own party members agree.”

Mark Lappin’s company blames Conservative tinkering and Labour rhetoric for deterring investors
Labour has pledged to move away from drilling in the North Sea as part of an effort to decarbonise electricity supplies by 2030, which brings the current UK target forward by five years. Starmer has argued that doing so will reduce bills, create jobs and boost economic growth.

Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, will vow to “unleash Scotland’s economic firepower to deliver jobs and growth” during a visit north of the border on Tuesday./quote]

Good find there Doodoo.

I guess with Myanmar's significant oil and gas potential "shut in" by western sanctions, this would help boost their domestic power supplies, especially in and around Yangon.

Never mind the earthquake risks but.

Is it TRUE? Hope so

Hyundai and Kia recently unveiled a zero-emission hydrogen engine in Korea, marking a significant leap in automotive technology. This innovation has the potential to disrupt the electric vehicle (EV) market, as the two automakers lead the development of hydrogen technology, focusing on both fuel cell systems and advanced hydrogen engines.

Since Russia reportedly leads in this nuclear tech, I wonder if this is the type of nuclear plant that they recently proposed to be built for Myanmar?

Probably not Russian, there are a couple of sodium cooled reactors nearing completion in the USA, the Russian old technology sodium reactors are prone to serious leakages and fires, lets hope the Yankee ones are safer.

The Myanmar unit is not the same. If it goes ahead it will be classed as a low power reactor. About 110 MW or a bit more. To my knowledge there are 3 countries signing up to this type and size of reactor from Russia
The TerraPower owner of the Demonstration model Natrium reactor unit in Wyoming will be built in 2 stages. Outside reactor battery limits first stage then the nuclear reactor section 2 stage after full permit is issued.
Every one is building reactors with Australia still at the starters gate. Well actually they haven’t even got a nomination in the race. But that will change after the next election.

Dutton chances of winning the election are a tad worse than a snowflake surviving in a sauna.

You follow the same old boring rhetoric. Why do you bring politics into it.
The next election whomever wins the people will demand nuclear because renewables ain’t working.
But carry on with your biased agenda.

Of course the issue on nuclear energy is political, Dutton is deliberatly picking a political fight on this very issue.

Your source stating the majority of Australians are in favour of nuclear energy? I dont think there is any such poll, but if you have a credible source, please share it with the rest of us.
