Are they a licensed business in Thailand? Do they have a license to sell insurance in Thailand, let alone issue policies. For those European s, who maintain health coverage at home, why not use the Allianz policies? For Americans covered by Medicare, you can simply use a travel medical type policy, mentioned earlier. For those, old and stateless, yeah right...younger people aren't d umm enough to pay into the same look as a 89 year old man..especially at the same rate...so just think for a minute, who the special interest group is here.

The first couple of sentences indicates that you have been too lazy to read the available documentation before putting up your reply. A too common behavior on forums and social media like Facebook.

Unlike most Europeans, I have been providing my own medical insurance for decades, with quite a few policies purchased for coverage in Thailand. The Swede plan is too broad and is just a poor attempt to reinvent the wheel. Swedes getting reimbursed for coverage applies to very few...but that seems to be much of the focus. If Sweden would simply require its citizens to buy a policy like they require foreigners to buy to visit Sweeden, from one of the numerous companies that offer Shengen policies, including the one I mentioned, it would be mission accomplished. But, plenty still believe they can get something for nothing....good luck. Those with health plans in their home countries need plans that will pay for stabilization and evacuation. 500k THB isn't going to get you a medivac to BKK, let alone, an escorted flight thousands of miles away.

As I said before, read all documentation before putting up a reply. The proposed insurance is for any nationality. Just for your information, if a Swedish person is registered in Thailand, he can't by a health plan from Sweden of renew one he had before moving to LoS. SAMS is working for a more complete solution. See the article I referred to in a reply above.

Tokio Marine lets Americans buy from abroad, after their trip has started, but no one else. Also, home country is always America for those born there, even if they have been here for twenty years. That obstacle would be resolved by the Swedes buying their policies on annual visits home. Since all you are trying to offer is very similar to travel medical, it might be more useful to make a list of the EU companies that offer it, and if you are allowed to buy it from abroad, after your trip has started, and of course the age limits. WHen the limits are small enough, as the case with 500K THB, there are options available. Thai Government Hospitals taking care of foreigners, with an affordable insurance scheme? Lasted about a month last time. It is simply not their mission, and then there would be a question of the other thirty million arrivals each year. What would be the justification to deny them the right to buy, or anyone else? I noticed the computers at Bangkok Bank were thirty years old+, not much different at the government facilities.

Here is a site that is much more EU centric. Has policies for people already abroad, no age limits. IMG Europe...IMG is one of the two main ones we use in the US.https://www.worldwideinsure.com/interna ... erseas.htm

Just found this one, which is also more non-US oriented, and widely recommended: https://www.worldnomads.com/

tighlander wrote "That obstacle would be resolved by the Swedes buying their policies on annual visits home." which shows that he has not a clue of how the Swedish system work if you moved outside EU. It is just not possible. Even if they could the insurance company would decide when the insured must be transferred to Sweden to continue treatment. Thai government hospitals do take care of foreigners. And what is the "thirty million arrivals each year" based on? The latest study from 2014 shows a little bit over 227,000 requested visa extension from the western countries.

If you only have 500K THB in coverage, wouldn't you want to be able to get to a place where you had unlimited coverage?
Should foreigners receive rates and charges subsidized by the Thai Government? If not, then what is the advantage of being at a Government Hospital? Have you ever heard the horror stories about what people get charged at NHS Hospitals, who are not in NHS? Call me skeptical, or even a bar stool critic, but there is just too much government, let alone foreign government in their proposal. It would require an insurance company, anyway, why not utilize existing international medical networks?

Happy to return insults. Basically, expecting a third world government to take even partial responsibility for pensioners from the wealthiest Western nations, who were too selfish to plan properly for their twilight years is nuts. These pipedreams aren't anything knew. I was just trying to point out the very obvious. So even if they do get covered, they will only have 500K in coverage, then what? They have zero safety net, live pension check to pension check, and likely wont have airfare home. That is all I will state...but I will revisit this in three months, just for a told you so.

Very interesting! Thanks for the link Mortsyn. This now appears to be much more credible than when you first started talking about this scheme on this thread.
