Car Repair Shop

Post by mak » January 23, 2021, 12:54 pm

Electric window not working. Probably the motor. Honda quoted 10k baht for a replacement assembly (for one window) including the motor. Does anyone know of a shop in town which can do such repairs?

Near the corner of ring road and 210, a row of places set back from 210. Heading towards city from Nong Wau So it is on your left half way between Tesco and Big C
I had a bumper sticker in Texas that read 'Beam me up Scotty'. I often wish I could find one in Udon Thani

I you can pull part number, either off the motor or the quote that Honda gave you and plug that into google, you may be amazed at what you can find. I have been lucky in finding all sorts of new (or used) sub-assemblies to replace the worn or broken bits of larger, more expensive assemblies that the dealership says is all that they supply.

TBH, the dealerships are all about ease of swapping parts rather than dismantling stuff like a t a breakers yard where they have disassembled a larger piece into individual component parts.

Honda Odyssey 2000. I presume any shop that replaces electric window motors could do it.

Crudy Hondas, auto windows packing it up after only 21 years.

Mak, it is probably the motor. if that is the case it can be rewound if a replacement is hard to find. Tamada's advice is pretty good, the motor is probably being used in many other models. There is a great electrical guy about 1 km on the left heading to Kut Chap, he actually repairs units so maybe worth a try as well. He repaired an EMS module for me last year and saved my over 20,000 bhat.

Just a quick squizz on t'internet shows lazada may be worth a stab. If it's available, there's a few YouTubes about doing it yourself.

Beats the heck out of costly dealership repairs, well done!

My truck is out of warranty now but I've found a good website that specializes in Ford parts, an online breakers yard so to speak. Between that, lazada, Ford Ranger forums membership and the YouTube videos, I hope to tackle most the smaller fixes by myself.

Just had the driver window motor replaced by the Isuzu dealer and service centre opposite DoHome on the Nong Khai road. No where near any past prices previously quoted here. 225 labour, 1650 part, 131 VAT.
2006 all up. Always use this dealer for servicing.

the problem with getting 2nd hand replacement
parts is the huge disparity in quality. from factory
to adequate, poor , and junk. can be a nightmare

Then: My T-bird's electric window winder went out. The dealership offered a new one or a cheaper refurbished one, recommending the latter. There was a quality issue on factory units that caused them to fail quickly whereas the refurb fixed the initial quality problem.

Now: I have bought parts for the sports lorry on lazada. No issues so far and most stuff comes in the original Ford package with the stores pull sticker attached. Not everything is cheaper though and I have sourced from the dealership on Highway 2 when the online price is higher.

And then post lazada?

Buy the intricate tools to take the door panels off and test the circuits.
Learn how to diagnostic test all doors.
Fit the unit correctly and test.
Replace said panels.that would be a few hours for me.
Not get an Isuzu guarantee.
Not have the privilege of sitting on a comfortable lounge with a maiden served free hot snack and hot cappuccino.
I also did get a 200 bht handsome man discount on the labour.

You can see I’m not a DIY car guy.
Good luck to those who are.
I was more than happy with a 100 dollar parts and labour deal.

Agree that it's an "up to you" choice and some DIY needs one to buy or borrow tools as well as watch a few YouTubes.

But the clincher for me was the lack of totty and only Nescafé 3-in-one at the DIY customer's lounge at Ford Nakha.

Add-ons ( Like alternators, Brake cylinders most electrical bits and pieces ) i agree can be sourced locally and repaired/replaced if possible, but when it comes to the Transmission, Engine, Steering the important bits and pieces, a DIY the4se days could be more costly than using a registered Main dealer.
