wanted-cable finder

Post by geordiegeordie » April 8, 2019, 10:05 am

I need to drill into a few walls but don't know the location of cables / pipes etc.

Does anyone know where I can buy a cable detector tool?

Thanks

Thanks to all for replies, I managed to get a cable finder from Lazada-seems to work a treat!

Just be aware there are many brands and just as many do not perform very well.
I doubt you will see any plastic piping behind wall panels let alone buried in concrete.
I have found that some also do not like fibre cement sheeting (villaboard, hardiflex, versilux etc) and will give weird readings.
Usually the more expensive ($50 and up) seem ok most of the time.

A good friend of mine built a new house. He put plastic coated paneling in the kitchen. About two years later he had a wet spot that bubbled the plastic paneling coating. It just got worse so he had to tear part of the wall out. He found that a paneling nail had gone into a plastic pipe. It took two years for the nail to rust and start leaking.
