Not here as yet but the sky looks a tad threatening , may skirt my location and dump it on more deserving places that need washing .........lol

This morning here in Loei province, we had a strange storm. Very heavy rain with VERY little wind but with spectacular lightning and thunder. We have an outside kitchen and the dog stayed in there and was shaking. Normally the electric goes off when a dog pees on a power pole but during this lightning storm, it went off for just a few minutes.

Are they termites in their winged form or locusts? I forget, but remember that villagers in rural Chiang Mai used to put pans of water under the main light and collect them. Subsequently, the bugs were deep fried. They were a delicious snack.

I'm guessing you're referring to what Thai's call Maeng Mahn (แมงมัน). They typically swarm the day after a good rain. I've seen locals eating the insects themselves....but the eggs are a delicacy.....and very expensive.

The missus calls the flying/swarming termites แมงเม่า (mang mao) "drunken insects". That may just be an Isaan moniker though. So far this season they've not been as prolific at our location as in the past.

Rained over night at Chez Niggles but I only knew about it by a few scattered puddles this morning.
Nice & bright early & a cool 28
A trip to Global at 8:45 saw me wading through water to get to the door so I guess they’d had a lot a rain quite recently.
Now booming thunder but only just wet over underfoot.

No sign of any termites, flying or deceased

Yes rumbling about , wind but no rain, but a friend over Ban Jan way said it is raining too much, so at least it is on the right side of town, those on the KK road deserve it all.
Cut one of my lawns this morning just in case ........lovely and cool.

Update did receive some rain but not heavy, enough to NOT do any more gardening today and made the air cool and very pleasant .

After the heavy rain earlier today the sun came out and it was lovely ..alas the sky is now turning a darker grey and filling up with rain again n its looking rather ominous... just as the roadies have completed the bodge job on the soil ramp.

Never got any heavy rain, more a spitting at Chez Niggles. I decided to clean the pool overflow because a) it was nice & cool & b) it’s actually a bit easier if water is running along.
It soon brightened up though & I should have donned a hat. Crikey readers, you know if you’ve caught the sun when you comb your luxurious locks & it feels like razor blades on your ‘ed?

A little bit cloudy now & only 28. Just right for an alfresco supper

Thanks. The insects were collected at night in rural Chiang Mai as they fell into large white basins kept under the main light in the country homes (baan nok). It was in 1980 or '81 when I ate the insects that had been placed in a cereal bowl for my consumption.

Yes, that was the word used in rural Chiang Mai too. Have you and your wife tried them? They were tasty in the way potato chips can be tasty. Maybe covid has eaten into their numbers this year. Thanks.

After the overnight rain , this morning the air is clear, wind minimal and the 7 day forecast is dry, with more rain possibly beginning of next week.
Temperatures cool today rising steadily throughout the week
AQI, know not, nor care. Deep breaths of clean cool air wonderful. The rain has washed all the rubbish out of the air .
