Yes noted bvut if you take the Passports office advice and use the full nine months befopre expiry dat on your passport then you will not have any issues, the renewal will come well begfore your expiry date and any time left is credited to your NEW passport .

Last minute renewals have never really been an option for the last few years

You do not get an extra 9 months anymore, scrapped about 5 years ago.

I lost four months last year
I did it through markssending/mc
It was cheaper than having to travel down to bkk from udon. He or trendy building will advise you on correct turn around times

My daughters passport applied for at Trendy end of february took only 3 weeks. However, the strike just announced may change that. But 11 weeks is the reccomended time.

The Passport web-site specifically mentions that you can apply for a renewal up to 9 months before the expiry of your current passport . Now at my age, losing a few months is neither here nor there but as he VISA is due in March and the current passport runs pout in August 2024. I am starting the procedure in October thereby giving plenty of time for a RENEWAL to be processed. Removing the stress of waiting and the problems of not getting it on time.

There are times when going to the line and risking it but in relaion to Passports and renewals considerng the option of popping down to the Central Passport office and raising hell is not an option.

Considering the cost over a TEN YEAR period the loss of a few pounds here and there over that time is nothing !!

So i was maybe wrong. However, is it still.an issue if travelling through EU congries? They not accept a passport more than 10 years old, or didn't a couple of years ago.

That is probably one of the reasons that passports are now short dated ....ie; 10 yrs from issue date now instead of the old 10 yrs from required renewal date ..........I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that about 20 million plus passport holders will end up paying a few quid each extra into their coffers every 10 yrs =;

No, you were correct, rick.

There is no time carried over from the old passport ie the new passport has 10 years from the date of issue.

So you can apply 9 months prior to expiry of the current passport, but you "lose" that 9 months (or whatever time).

Would you like to share the link to H.M. P.O. that you referred to. It seems that it may not be the HMPO website as you can actually apply at any time (I can’t see anything that limits you to 9 months) and whenever you apply you will get a 10 year passport, though prior to 2018 you could get up to 10 years 9 months depending on the period available on your current passport

Though of course you are unlikely to actually have an existing visa

In my posts all fees and requirements are the standard R&R but TIT and a brown envelope can make incredible changes YMMV.

Wasn't the 9 month thing mentioned a couple of years ago when there was a backlog of 10's of thousands and people requiring a passport urgently, who were not getting them due to people ordering new passports a year in advance
One assumes the staff shortages and backlog has been fixed by now
