NEW Traffic Lights

Post by Doodoo » February 5, 2023, 10:50 pm

It appears new traffic lights are being installed on the roadway in from of the Wholesale Vegetable Market just west of Big C and East of Makro. So be aware of them becoming operational

Good Luck

The roadworks at the U turn have made turning there even more dangerous than before, have to negotiate it weekday mornings for the past month. Have always said the U turn needs traffic lights - but will it stop all the bikes going the wrong way at the market entrance - 50% of the time have to weave between those as well as 3 lanes of traffic.

Always thought this was one of the worst turns in town.

They've moved the u-turn about 50 meters west and added traffic lights. I guess the test will come when they turn the lights on (currently flashing amber so nobody has to stop), a busy market day and school drop-off/pickup times at Mariephitak. A lot of the school minivans (lazy drivers?) wait on the north side of Nittayo hence the bollards blocking off the 'fast' lane for kids crossing to catch their rides home. Another problem in the afternoon is loaded pickup trucks leaving the market via Phruet Sachat (same soi as the school) and making a second or third u-turning line to head east. Maybe they'll block off that rear exit from the market and force all market users to use the new, light-controlled intersection/u-turn.

Then again, maybe they won't. Unlikely you'll see the MiB anywhere near it. Ever.

If you come out of Big VC and wish top go Nong Han direction, an alternative is urning left just past MAKRO, down a small soi shrp right hand bend and then at a T juction, turn left, follow the orad all the way to the ring road and drive down to the lights and turn right etc.
Possibly initially safer than jostling for position and doing the U Turn as even now they have two or three wishing to U turn at the same timer clogging up the road causing chaos as they turn, imagine what they will be like if they have to wait .

Alternative do not go to Big C between 1430 and 1700 , Monday to Friday

the Talad Muang Tong U-Turn light is only on flashing yellow as of now. The actual U-Turn lanes are not completed yet. Looks like they need some additional curbs and paving. I agree that the proof will be when it goes live. People who've been barrelling off the Big C Overpass for years heading into town aren't likely to pay one shred of attenntion to the new lights. Expect accidents..

Today i was at the lights recently erected at the Nong Samrong U-turn, near the golf course. Stopped as lights red, waited for my turn fir the U-turn. Lights turned to green, but 2 cars coming from the other direction 3 seconds later decided the lights didn't exist and drove straight across - TIT.. Police could make a fortune.

Seems like a good idea, no point waiting for evening/nightime when there would be far less traffic to inconvenience

There have been times , notably the overpass and underpass junction at the Nong Khai turning on the Ring Road, he overpass at Big C plus other minor road amendments including the famous turn at the Airport, when when you know it is happening the best solution is to plot a circuitous route to avoid it .
THEN when all completed go for a drive in the wee hours between 0400/0600 and slowly look at the junction and obvious or not pitfalls and then you can negotiate it safely at normal times
I made an error once went to the underpass during the day and almost got cut off by a samlor which showed me i had made a minor lane error. So I now take the precautionary measures as stated

I wonder if the police will park a few cars with their flashing lights on near the intersection to cause folks to slow down once they activate the lights?? It might condition folks to them..... Nah...... :D
