Smile, You're on Camera

Post by parrot » November 8, 2022, 3:01 pm

The city has set up 10 cameras to identify people driving motorcycles without helmets. I'll guess a photo of the violation is mailed to the owner of the motorcycle......as they do for red light violators at various intersections in the city.

how many motorcyles are on the road with expired license plates or even with no license plate at all? Any updates on the status of photo tickets for speeding or running red lights? The plan was to integrate the fine system with the land transportation system so when an offender with unpaid tickets tried to get their annual tax stamp it would be blocked until they went to the police station and paid. I'll wait to see how this all trickles down to the people level.... Meanwhile the BiB set up their checkpoints in the same places at the same time.

If it's my wife's teenage nephew on his un-taxed crotch-rocket (with the expired Ubon plates), no doubt it will be his bespoke, tonsorial magnificence.

And thus the rote harvesting of the low-hanging fruit begins.

Well that's interesting, they will be busy. A few years ago they also set up this one http://streaming.udoncity.go.th/index.php?cctv=77 with nearly 40 cameras around town, it was down for a while but appears to be all up and working now.

Thai license plates do not expire. If you buy a used bike then you must change the registration to your city and if the city changes then you must get new plates. But if you don’t then the old owner gets the tickets.

The annual tax expires but not the plates.

Checkpoints galore in town today, and the speed/distance cameras from Nong Khai to Udon remain U/S.

Wrong... If the road tax is not paid for 10 years or more then the vehicle registration expires... including the plates...

I guess that will work but the police don't have the technology to detect people who haven't paid fines. Nearly all police cars here in Oz are fitted with a camera with number plate recognition, they just drive around and get notified if the car it sees has a driver with outstanding fines.
