No point of having new/revised traffic laws and penalties if they are not enforced correctly without corruption!

Yep as usual the same old negative responses from , many including myself , enforcement is the key and that has always been sadly lacking, hopefully it may deter some drivers like the Zip Lor with its trailer chasing me up the Sakon Nahkon n road flashing his lights as I was doing 90 in the outside lane overtaking slower vehicles on the inside .

Or the persistent Motorcycles that encroach on crossings at traffic lights, what would be good if Zebra crossing drivers would be fined the max, I stop for people crossing but one day a person crossing will be hit by someone who ignores it .

Without VISIBLE Enforcement and strict adherence to laws, any changes will mean nowt but warning do not risk it, they will always impose the max on Foreigners

I'll wait to hear about the first fine for not wearing a seat belt in the back of a space cab. Until then, I'm betting that's not going to happen

Agree understand Postponed for THREE months so the RTP can fully understand and so the Government can fully educate the public ( that will never happen ) .

Again we see the RTP running the Government like the Seat Belt laws, RTP unable to enforce simple laws unless of course there is some reward in actually working

Some may very well think I am anti RTP , well I am ( only the Corrupt ones ) , but in faurness after having a couple of seesions talking to a good friend of mine in the RTP, in truth they have two problems.
One is the the fact that they know FULL WELL that if they did actually impose the fines and the penalties on Road users they would in effect bring the country to a halt.
As the vast majority of drivers are unable or refuse to pay the fines and in any event will drive even if banned`, knowing that the faint chance of being caught is not high and `again another fine ( unpaid ) and so the cycle continues .

The second problem is that with Endemic Corruption in Thailand, the general public think and often see corruption working, so offering a bribe is very commonplace , more so from those who can least afford it so these people can carry on working and paying other bills.

He pointed out that if they actively enforced the law as they should regarding for example Motorcycles , licences/tax/etc, then about 50% of Udon would either NOT go to School or NOT go to work .
This major problem would be the crowds at the police Station moaning and groaning and the Schools would be up in arms as well.

He agreed the situation is not getting better with more and more vehicles and motorcycles , he also agreed the Driving licence is still TOO EASY to obtain ( By means , fair or foul ).

But it is what it is, so although I tell him I think they are not doing a good job, after outlining the problems I do feel some sympathy for his plight . Especially in relation to Traffic Enforcement, other subjects we do not cover

The RTP Will NEVER Be able to Enforce the seat belt Laws....They Can't / Don't even stop the vehicles with NO Number Plates & They WON'T / DON'T Have Any Insurance / Road Tax....

Having lived here for just shy of 26 years and never being asked for a 'bribe', I'm interested:
Was this a case of being caught dui?
Was there some other more serious traffic violation involved (hitting someone/vehicle), lack of license/insurance, etc?
I've paid my share of traffic violation fines, but also talked my way out of a few as well. Only one time, long ago, did a cop stop me on the highway (no checkpoint) and try to get lunch money. I told him I didn't have money and he waved me by. All my fines have been legit.......and not bribes........so I'm interested in the particulars of this case......if you care to share.
