Yep just in time as we approach the Thai Winter which seems to hotter than last year. Followed many saving power advice, nothing is on standby any more and believe it or not Phone Chargers use minute amounts of Electricity if left plugged as opposed to a Microwave clock which most have on 24/7 .
Install longlife bulbs where you can and save. Fans far cheaper than Air-con .
Worked pout the 18% increase will cost about 250+ baht more a month , those on tight budgets, think about how to save.

Good points KP. My father-in-law (RIP) was hard on those leaving lights or fans on. When the offenders wouldn't take a telling, he would unscrew the bulbs or turn of circuit breakers. I recall visiting one time when he ruled and finding the house is semi-permanent darkness and Mrs tam having to explain why to me. He must have had Scottish blood!

The passive draw of all sorts of 'smart' appliances is a very good point. Chargers left plugged in. Fridges with fancy indicators on the outer door for those grazing after dark (you know who you are!). Appliance clocks that never get looked at (it's time to nuke your noodles is all you need to know!). LCD telly's either left on while nobody's watching or in standby mode overnight (for who?!). Using two or three floor fans when there's a perfectly good, large but lower-power ceiling fan. Not turning the washing machine off after emptying it, leaving that solitary flashing red "Are you finished?" LED. All this stuff gives me the schitzz as well.

"Look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves" as the late father-in-law (didn't) used to say.

A little tit-bit from the UK on saving electricity

Simple energy saving hacks for every household
Estimated cost Annual bill saving
Switch off: Turn devices around the home off standby mode. Free £55

Save water in the bathroom: Keep your shower time to four minutes. Additionally, swap one bath a week with a four-minute shower. Free £35 each person

Using appliances: Use your washing machine on a 30-degree cycle and reduce use by one run a week. Only run your dishwasher when it is full. Free £28

They do not mention the saving by using more energy efficient light bulbs, however I can say that a light I leave on each night all night , I have changed only twice in 15 years , shows 40 watts although only using 5 watts.

From the internet an American survey, try looking yourself then we can all ask for the source, it is purely and indication for those who think about saving electricity. Obviously you are not worried thanks for your input !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The internet is not a source.

The US uses 110V as standard, and Thailand 220/240V.

Is this relevant to usage, and therefore cost?

Just to clarify the U.S. operates on 120V, 60 cycles

Oh dear have I ruffled some feathers, as my survey was informing people of the wattage, the electricity used is irrelevant.
In future I will no longer provide information for general usage, as it appears I am wrong again in trying to inform people although those that complain FAIL to provide alternative or possible correct info.

Another good reason to look at solar.

Prices from solar shop in hauhin. I don't know them just one of the first to appear in google search.

Recouped the investment on 18th August 2042...and kicked off the next day.

Then there's the vain hope that it will be maintained after we've gone.

Has he got any insight on it helping the people cope with 10-year terms?

It is not only worth looking at when or if you can get your investment back, IMO. For me, it is safety and avoiding blackouts, shorts and immer increasing electricity bills. Important is we always have power, regardless of weather.

Very true, but since nthe PEA has been working hard at upgrading the main distribution lines and becoming proactive in trimming trees and other matter that impinge on their infrastructure, the lack of electricity has gone down from once a month to about once a quarter mainly down to upgrading etc and then only 30/45 minutes at a time .

But at 73 any losses will be far outweighed by saving spending on system that MAY save me money in the long term !!
