no masks?
no masks?
Thai Gov announced that compulsory mask wearing is over.
I tested the water today, went shopping at Big C barefaced. Two guys in Big C had masks pulled down, everybody else wore masks. No comments or scowls from other shoppers. What have others experienced?

I had a bumper sticker in Texas that read 'Beam me up Scotty'. I often wish I could find one in Udon Thani
Re: no masks?
Covid still around at 2,000 to 3,000 cases per day
Still will wear a mask, wash hands etc

Re: no masks?
Better get it back out of the bin if you intend to enter a lot of places in Thailand ......whether they do or don't make a difference you will still need to wear them before being allowed in.
I hear UFES meetings will now be mask free apart from the days where baked beans are on the menu then they are compulsory

I happened to be in Aus when the mask mandate was lifted, instantly 99% of people threw them away, it was great to see faces again. I still follow the proffesional advice I was given to consume San Miguel daily to prevent covid, seems to working to... Best to get on with life.

Re: no masks?
This is a reflection of the common sense of the Thai people (this is rather strange to be saying, I know) compared to the lack of it in Australiafatbob wrote: ↑June 28, 2022, 2:57 pmI happened to be in Aus when the mask mandate was lifted, instantly 99% of people threw them away, it was great to see faces again. Perhaps covid is allergic to the little bit of citric acid stuffed in the San Mig bottle neck

Stat.
The government lifted the mandate last week. Yes a few thousand cases each day, with a population of 70M, that is quite a low rate of infection. My view is the risk is so low that it is worth guaging the impact, thus my choice today. I have been very vigilant since the start of COVID, had my injections etc. I think it is time we started to move to the next phase

Re: no masks?
Agree that we need to move forward ..... however throwing masks in the bin, is a step too far. In the pocket to be used when surrounded by people to offer them protection (regardless of proof one way or another) is my intention. If those around me are happy to go maskless, so will I, if they are all still worried and wearing masks I will put mine on. It doesn't cost me anything , and if it makes those nearby feel safer that's ok with me
Whilst typing this my neighbour drove up in his pick up (Big Lad about 27/28 years old. Nobody else in pick up, door opened he jumps out ........... wearing a black mask ............ that wasn't even necessary before the mask mandate was lifted ...... so I suspect he will continue to wear it when out and about

Re: no masks?
make your assessment based on your age and possible vulnerabilities. I'll continue to wear my N95 in crowded areas and use the alky hand-washing stations. Can't hurt. In open areas, driving with the wife, and less crowded venues, no need now..

Re: no masks?
Covid still around, and a lot more than a couple of thousand aday - just people use a rapid test and stay at home. My extended family has had 6 members sick this month, plus one neighbour. Thos is more than the total in the previous 2 years. Daughters class at school averages one case a week.
Re: no masks?

Not my anecdote, just an observation of what went down. Get your facts right.jackspratt wrote: ↑June 28, 2022, 7:07 pmKeep in mind that fatbob's anecdote is just that ..... an anecdote.

I didn't quote any facts, and neither did you.
Sounds like an anecdote to me.

Re: no masks?
Has anyone seen the published "R" infection factor from the MOPH? In the UK, it's gone back above 1.0 in the 30 days up to 22 June. Gone from 0.8 to 1.4 in about 60 days.

If you have an appointment or a need to go to the Udon land office.
Better check by phone as my trusted spy in there has just now told me that it’s closed due to Covid. Maybe 10 cases
Masks didn’t help.

At the end of March 2020, the Thai Effective reproduction or "R" number was 1 (0.68 – 1.5). Apparently they stopped issuing updates after this date.
