For years I have been buying these cookies for a snack. They used to package them 12 cookies per pack for 10 Baht. Now they have cut the package size down to 8 cookies and raised the price to 12 Baht at Big C, so that's an 80% price increase per cookie. The price at 7/11 in Khon Kaen a few weeks back was 13 Baht. Most people might say it's not a big deal, but if every vendor uses this kind of method to gouge the consumer, our monthly grocery bill will be taking a huge hit.
I used to buy Aunt Julia's peanut butter cookies......6 to a pack. Then suddenly the packs came with only 4. If you look at the ingredients label with a pair of premium rose-colored glasses, you'll see that 4 are probably 3 too many. At our age, it's probably just as well that things like this are downsized.
If you can manage to keep a half kilo of these cookies in your pantry without gorging yourself, buy them at Makro.....I doubt anywhere is as cheap. Twenty-four separate packs for 88 Baht....3.67 Baht per pack. All the convenience stores sell the same small packs for 5 Baht.

At age 68 I know my foibles so don't buy cookies, candy, or any other comestibles containing large amounts of sugar.. A bag of cookies in hand is a bag emptied in 30 minutes munch munch munch..... Whenever I feel the urge to buy some, I just shake my head an walk on....

As for inlfation, my Nestle's Econo sized Corn Flakes at Makro was 95 baht back in 2012, bounced around that + or - 5-6 baht for years and now is at 116..

There's a lot of froth about interest rates hikes right now. The Fed does it on July 27th claiming it's to stave off inflation and stymie recession. Based on the premise that when the US shitz the bed, the world has to lie in it, the BoE did it next on 4th August. However, they also boldly declared that the UK's slip into recession this year is inevitable. The politicians then blame their central banks. Then it trickles down to parochial wee Thailand to play follow my leader.

I saw a clip from the 1980 presidential debate between Carter and Reagan where, faced with virtually the same crises as today of high oil prices, raging commodity prices and looming recession (but no war in Ukraine), the moderator asks each candidate what needs to be done. Reagan's response is like deja vu and should be taken onboard by all the current free world leaders and those that run their budgets who are running around like headless chooks and trying to blame every xxxxxx and his dog for the mess they've been presiding over.

Not necessarily.

If you have no debt, but have savings, higher interest rates are a good thing. Particularly if they contain inflation.

Well as a comparison one of Canada's northern communities.
"In stores in Nunavut's capital Iqaluit recently, a bag of cherries sold for C$21 ($16.34), and a six-pack of bottled water cost C$19 - both about double the cost in southern Canada. A 12-pack of soft drink cans sold for C$27, triple the price in the south"
"Iqaluit resident Nathaniel Chouinard, 35, says he used to spend C$500 every two weeks to feed his family of six. Since January, he has been spending C$150 more every two weeks."

$21 Cdn = 576 THB
$19 Cdn = 521 THB
$27 Cdn = 740 THB

My wife and I joke sometimes about what one could buy for 10 Baht in the US. Trust me, there's not much left that costs less than $0.35 in the US these days. Today at the Nongwahsaw market, my wife shopped for fresh basil. One vendor has bunches for 10 Baht. My wife wasn't having it.....so she browsed and found another table offering larger bunches for 5 Baht each. My wife inquired, "5 bunches for 20 Baht?". Sure enough, with a smile.
In the Asian markets in Texas you can buy the equivalent of one of those bunches for several dollars.....and there's no room for extra. If you don't have an Asian market handy and have to buy your basil in a supermarket, the same several dollars would buy a half of one bunch.
Inflation hasn't hit the Nongwahsaw market yet.......green onions will fluctuate with the growing season, as they always have. But things like tomatoes, beans, eggplant, bananas, mint, lemons, shallots, garlic, etc have not been affected....at least according to my wife.
