Coffee beans

Post by glalt » November 6, 2021, 10:45 pm

What are your favorite coffee beans? I grind my own beans and found that the grind does make a big difference. I'm looking for a strong coffee flavor. I like the taste of Amazon iced coffee but I want that flavor hot from my drip maker. Right now I'm using a blend, 20 percent Robusta. I have tried many different combinations, even a DeLonghi espresso maker. I gave up on the espresso machine mainly because I like a large cup and not those tiny little cups. I'll mention that I do have a good quality bean grinder, a Russel Hobbs drip coffee maker plus a Unold. Not much difference between drip machines. No matter what combination I try, I'm just not satisficed with the flavor.

They advertise Coffee culture. asia on the Thaiger as having "taster packs" of beans available.
Perhaps they might be worth trying as you can order on line and get to pick which ones you fancy.
There is also a 10% off offer ......check out The Thaiger on you tube/facebook etc for details

Makro, yes I know, sell very strong beans from Nan, in 500g packs, both Arabica and Robusta. I have tried them both separately and in a 70/30 mix, in both of my bean-to-cup machines, with good results. Lazada has a quite astonishing range of beans available, although I am yet to order on-line, but will do so.

Glait, give Aroi Coffee from Chang Mai a look. They do beans and grinds roasted and ground to your specification (you can purchase in whole bean form as well). 100% Aribica grown in Thailand. https://aroi-thailand.com

I now have on order this coffee - Doi Chang Professional Medium Roast Vienna. I buy all my coffee beans off Lazada. I'll try Arabica again. I also bought a Time more hand grinder just to make sure my electric grinder is working properly, same results. I actually bought it to take to my condo along with the Unold coffee machine.

The beans from Nan at Makro are 'Pui' brand and are my go-to brand. I also like Naiyung brand from the far northwest of Udon province, near Loei border. I discovered the latter on a trip to Wat Pa Phu Khon. They also had a shop at Udon airport, right beside the meet and greet area as well as a shop on the corner of Walking Street. The latter was still trading with limited hours 6 months ago. Another brand that's decent is Red Cliff, mail order out of Chiang Mai but I haven't ordered in a while.

I have a couple of electric "grinders" which in reality are cutters as burr grinders are different and what the proper coffee shops use. I also have a hand burr grinder and there's definitely a difference in taste but the electric grind is faster and easier.

Unless you inhale a couple of cups quickly, I would get a cafetiere or French Press and ditch the drip and stew machine. Make sure you get a good quality one with decent, thicker glass pot than the generic cheap ones that can crack easily with hot water. If you do get a cheap one, leave a spoon in it when you add water as this helps conduct the heat away from the glass walls.

I've moved on from beans......down to 2 cuppas per day versus 5 a few years ago. But I still make my coffee in a stainless Italian Bialetti, microwave a shot of fresh milk for a minute and handspin it up before adding the coffee. Perfect cappuccino. I like the Bialetti because there's never any stale coffee. I've probably made several thousand cups in the same pot.
Today in Makro.....Sole Robusta/Arabica dark blend 155 baht/500g. Zolito dark south blend 500g/210 Baht. Phu 100% Arabica 500g/235 Baht. Mivana 100% Arabica 255 Baht/250g. Among the many varieties available.

I can drink instant coffee if I have no other choice, BUT, I draw the line with the 3 in 1 crap. I'd rather do without.

Spoonful of instant and fill mug with hot water, no milk, no sugar, does what its supposed to with minimal effort. Mind you i'm happy to drink Sansom or 100 pipers etc ....my liver cant tell the difference and 20 yrs of mostly Thai beer have wrecked any semblance of taste buds I had left

Coffee is like breakfast I find, to each their own, personally I like the German medium Roast with a handfull of Arabica and some Robusta thrown in, how it come out depends on how the beans align themselves as I spoon them out for the grinder to grind.
Whichever way it come out , it tastes good.
My favourite was strong german blend when I was in germany, using a percolator on an old Kerosene stove which kept the flat warm, lovely sound of the popping coffee and filled the flat with that warm coffee smell . Fantasic on a freezing morning , got the red and grey cells working just fine.

I’ve been drinking that WE cappuccino style for at least 2 years.
Far better for to start the day than coffee in the morning, served with a nice healthy breakfast.
2 satchels in a large mug. Hot water that’s it.
I drink other coffees elsewhere when out and about.
I can get it wholesale by the box for you if you don’t want online purchasing.

Excellent video, DM......similar to what I see when you're walking your dog alongside the speedway. If you add a 'before' photo/video, you may find some advertising opportunities with the company.
