Shopping for new scooter

Post by newtovillagelife » May 4, 2021, 10:52 am

Hi all, anyone know why the list price and dealership price differs for scooters. Shopping for a new Honda PCX 160.

Technically speaking they should be / are the same, MSRP, unless it's an in demand item and the dealership bumps up the price because of the high demand. Are you talking about dealer invoice price?

It also might be because the list price, wherever you're getting it from, does not include the destination charge.

After doing some research I see the list price is 91,900 baht. Nice little markup.

I was recently looking on line and found this for the PCX 160, with prices for each Model

the Thai are for riding a motorbike appear to be 15 Years old and the Thai minimum age for driving a car appears to be 18 years old.

Is 15 Years the correct minimum age, even if it is 160 cc or is it limited to under....cc if you are 15 or 16 years old

I actually wanted the Monster one because I like the stickers 🤭
It’s brand new but a 2019 model without ABS & I paid a lot less than this

Can anyone suggest the best Honda Dealer in Udon Thani (for Motorbikes), who one can communicate with in English, via email

Anyone have a Phone number

I called several Dealers, and all I get is a recorded message in Thai, which to me is as "Useless as Tits on a Bull"

I have heard a lot of good things about the Aerox. One guy went from an older PCX to the Aerox and he says the Aerox is a much better bike.

Here is another reply that doesn’t answer your question. Across from the big shrine at Rajabaht University is this Kawasaki dealer, Yong Yongtrakarn. They share service and parts department with the Honda dealer next door. I use a mix of Thainglish when dealing with the parts guys as I have a Kawasaki and couple of Hondas. I have not tried emailing them or buying a new bike from them. Good luck though!

The age 15 through 17 motorcyle license is probationary and not related to engine size or output. A full license for bike or car can only be issued to age 18 and above. The 9-11 year olds zooming around in my village haven’t got the memo, I guess.

There was news awhile back of a special license and training for riding bikes over 400cc. No mention of age iirc. Hopefully ‘they’ have forgotten about it by now. ;)

I think this still applies if the buyer is the rider & purchase from a legitimate shop.
I was asked for my license when I bought my bike new. The trouble is, most buyers are not the riders & the bikes are bought secondhand

Hopefully moving back to Udon on a permanent basis soon so I too may be shopping for a motorized scooter in the coming weeks ... i shall go for the Honda Click 150i.. yes i know its a bit of a girly choice for such a strapping butch chap .... i like the new blue and silver colour but the main reason is its has a spacious open foot and leg space with a hanger for my 7/11 shopping bag and enough room for a case of 12 Chang biguns.... oh and they are circa 60k which is way cheaper than the PCX etc.

So interested to read any feedback from any reccoed Honda dealers in Udon ref service and deals etc.

^ I can’t really comment on a Click as I’m a bloke & let’s be honest they’re really for Mrs Somchai to schlep about in the villages but if you’ve set your heart on one (blue 😂) so be it.

I also can’t comment about Honda dealers specifically as I bought a Yamaha but I expect the purchase experience to be similar if not the same.

I took time out & visited every retailer, main dealers & independents, I could find. I didn’t find anyone offering a deal, the price quoted when I walked in was the price to pay. They all offered two free helmets which didn’t fit, a full tank of fuel (100 baht🙄) & compulsory insurance (645 baht). This was sometimes just said straight from the bat, others kept quiet until pressed trying to make it sound like they were offering a deal which they weren’t.
The important thing was actually I did find a difference in price quoted, 9500 baht between the dearest & cheapest for exactly the same bike, model, year.
I was then able to get them to waive the 3% supplement for using a credit card which was worth another couple of thousand.
Shop around, it’s worth it

I can’t for the life of me think where the Honda dealer is opposite Thung Si Muang. Whereabouts is this?

Cheers

Do you mean the Honda dealer on the corner of Posri road across from the park? Been gone a year or two. I was surprised to find it closed up.
