On the Positive Side

Post by parrot » April 5, 2021, 8:02 am

Just back from a 13 month 'covid vacation'......a few things I've noticed that I haven't heard mentioned:
2 hour parking in Central parking, pay 50 baht per hour after that. The area was mostly empty when I went to Central yesterday, while the open parking was mostly full. Stay under 2 hours, you park free, stay over you pay 50 baht per hour.

Serenade AIS service in Central: AIS had a version of this before we left last year, but now it's almost like concierge service while you wait. Coffee machine, chilled water, comfy chairs, and friendly staff.

The Udon/Loei highway now has several mini-frontage roads that weren't there last year. And the center divide is now closed off with those industrial-size concrete blocks.

It started a few years ago as a small flower festival in Huay Sam Ran, but soon blossomed into a popular place for selfie-conscious lovlies to test out their newest phones. Coffee shops sprouted up soon enough......and now the Kilo 18 road has been repaved.

Forgive my ignorance but what/where is Kilo 18?
You’ve mentioned it a few times before & I have no idea what it is.

Cheers

Kilo 18 is the kilo market from the center of the city on the way to Nongbualamphu. 4-way lighted intersection just past the 4 way lighted intersection to Huay Luang reservoir.
Back in the daze, there was (maybe still is) a 9 hole golf course that was called Kilo 18 golf. Other than the golf course, there wasn't squat out in this area. I suspect the natives learned of kilo 18 from the golf course........seems if I tell most anyone that I live at kilo 18, they know what I'm talking about.

Parrot, have you been to the seafood restaurant there, I have not tried it yet? I think the golf course you refer to is quite close to Nong Wau So, it is still there
I had a bumper sticker in Texas that read 'Beam me up Scotty'. I often wish I could find one in Udon Thani

Aah, I very rarely venture through those parts. Mrs N likes the occasional visit to the jungle market but not very often.

Must be off the 210 on route to Cowboy Town, yes?

I don’t play or have any interest in golf so wouldn’t have come across any courses

Perfect, thanks Noosy 👍

Gets a bit tangled with my naturally flowing mane & the grey highlights clash a bit with my strawberry blonde colour but I can work with it.

I love donkeys .. many moons ago as a teen in Scunny i had one ..his name was Steve... and also whilst on a year out i lived just outside a place called Monclova an industrial steel city in Northern Mexico the donkey was my chosen mode of transport to the local shop for a Corona out in the suburbs.

Wishing all donkeys a great day.

Strangely enough he did have an attitude ... was old n heading for the knackers yard but saved by my mam he lived very happily another 5 plus years along with our Cat Feefee , ducks , 2 peacocks and huge 40 plus stone pig called Slim.

Arrrr Memories

That's a very impressive figure for an English sheila who has three kids.
