Buying prescription medication in Thailand.

"Up until today I got all my medication from the hospital, I stayed with them for one year after my operation as I didn't want problems with side effects or anything else.
Today I went for my 3 month checkup but did not buy my medication from the hospital.
I went to two different pharmacies for my medication, the saving was phenomenal.
Hospital 19305 baht.Pharmacy 6065 baht.
Approx 13000 baht saving.
I did not need a prescription just had to show my tablets.

Atorvastatin for cholesterol 90 tablets 9540 baht Vs 1200 baht.

Bisopolol for blood pressure 342 baht Vs 293 baht.

Apixaban Eliquis for anticoagulant 90 tablets, 9180 Vs 5670.

Aspirin 243 baht Vs 90 baht.

I would presume he filled his needs every 3 months so 13,000x4 = 52,000 baht /year savings

Not sure what hospital you go to, for 500 baht at my hospital I get 6 months supply of amlodopine 10 mg, and simvastatin 10 mg. Also have to add 150 baht charge to see doctor.

My pharmacy ( not in hospital ) charges:
100 X 40 mg Bestatin == 290 baht
100 X 5 mg hypercore == 385 baht.
It is important to send a Thai person in order to get the best prices. For few years i purchased myself, the prices were good, then one day MTG was going to the same pharmacy for her brother, i saked to get my medications, i was shocked to see that for exact same things she had paid 15-20 % less. Caveat Emptor.

it should be well known that medication in any hospital is more expensive as buy them in pharmacy, (not all pharmacies though) , fe simvastatin 10mg /100 pack 50 baht , amlopidine 10mg /100pack 60 baht ...
bisoprolol 5mg/100 pack 300 baht ,as info...
( i pay about same , bestatin 100x40mg 300 baht, hypercor 350 baht)

My only caveat is be careful of the hole in the wall type pharmacies as their meds can be outdated or knockoffs that are not correct strength of formula

The original poster didn't state which hospital he attended ,
all this has been covered before ,
i pretty much suspect it was a cash cow hospital (private ) that he used for one year ,
My experience , the Gov heart uni hospital Khon Kaen that i get my meds from on a (now ) 6 months basis ,are cheaper than the few pharmacies i price checked against , that includes Forte out on the ring rd , Who by the way came nearest to the hospital price ,but only 1000 bht dearer over 6 months

I went to PP in Cambodia late last year (and I am not suggesting you do so at this time), but I found the "U Care Pharmacy" chain, to be excellent (on par with, if not better than Boots) and perfect English spoken by the girls, plus the prices of their medicines about 20% less, on average, to the prices in Thailand, for what I was buying. Other PP pharmacies a little smaller than U Care, were also very good and prices were even slightly cheaper again. And it all works fine.

In Thailand, I was paying B 1050 for a packet of Xatral XL (10mg x 30 Tablets) and at U Care Pharmacy in Phnom Penh, I only paid the equivalent of B 875. Where I am and also in Australia it will cost you between B 1250 - 1300, for a 30 tablet Packet. From 875 to 1300 is nearly a 50% mark up.

I realize their are other cheaper generic brands such as Celxib, Zobrex etc.
