Scooter Tires

Post by newtovillagelife » June 4, 2020, 10:52 am

Hi All,

My tires need replacing and I had a question about sizing. I need 90/80/14, and I found 90/90/14 at a good price, can I use these or does it have to be the exact size. Am I right to assume the last number(14) has to stay the same and you can vary the other two?

I think the 90/90/14 is just a little larger outside diameter.
But, very little.
I think it should be fine.

Best, though, to go ask the people that are going to fit it, unless you're gunna do it yourself.

The first number is the width , the second the height inflated , the third the rim diameter .
So yes you can use those tyres , you will just ride 10 cm lower , but on a bike doesnt really matter about clearances .

the 1st # is tire tread width in mm. the 2nd the ratio of sidewall height to tread width as a % ,the 3rd wheel diameter tire fits in inches

as mick says, a slighter taller tire. and every repair
shop has piles of these things for 250-300 baht
is it free? we'll ignore lateral stability& skidpad g's

interesting maintenance tidbit for you scooter
drivers . they all have a small reservoir of gear oil
in rear which can be changed. mine just hit 50k

trying to catch-up on work , i had trusted local fella
change it and there was little left( 200ml capacity)
if you've ever heard bikes wailing with gear noise

Just changing my scooter tyres and have them now fitted. Michelin City Grip 2.
Installed as per the rotation direction arrow for rear and front. There are 2 arrow directions on each tyre.
As per arrows the tyres are in now opposite directions.
I never finished school, so need help and I’m sure there is an expert here who can explain the technicality why the rear would expel water but the front being opposite direction would push water inward?

Funnily enough Barney, I was enlightened on this just a few weeks ago when I too was rather perplexed. Apparently it's something to do with the front tire being the steerable wheel in conjunction with the weight shift (center of gravity) and other dynamics under progressive braking.

If they are, you're doing it wrong.

Both run Anti clockwise as per forward motion as for tyres both will repel tyres front or rear doesnt matter only difference is wet weather tyres specifically for as it says wet weather where deeper grooves and thickness of tread are specific to that tyre. Rear tyres will wear quicker if the rear brakes are more used than the front brake and drive gear will wear the rear tyre.
