Old age care homes Udon Thani

Post by Barney » April 13, 2020, 11:17 am

I have seen it mentioned but can’t find a distinct topic.
Has anyone information on old age care type facilities in Udon?
For a Thai
Location
Care provided including medical
Cost
Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Barney,
You've raised a good point and to my knowledge there is very little if anything. I could be wrong? However, we are working with land developers 'now' with a facility as you mentioned in mind. We believe it is needed and would be great for people who need such care.
We will post when we have further news and any progress.
May I ask for your opinion on what 'you consider the essentials would be' in such a retirement village. What would meet most of those needs?

Great thinking and if there is such a place, we do wish those in need well!

Regards,

I know a lad who's father is in a nursing home in Udon and he speaks highly about the care and the price.
Unfortunately I don't have his contact details but if you type into Facebook ''Nursing homes Udonthani'' you will find there are a few.

Thanks guys for the answers. Will over time research what you have provided.
I’m just getting info to lay the foundation of what may or may not happen.
I realise the difficulty of the Thai inclination to keep the elderly at home. Convincing the missus and then the harder task of convincing the Mum to even want to go may be mission impossible.
Actually having experienced the same thing in Vietnam some years ago now, with the gf at the time having her father go through the difficulty of deteriorating at home. There was never any thought of moving him anywhere. The family and he never complained and we talked via translation about his life quite a bit. Tough old bugger. He was a colonel in Ho Chi Minh’s army during the American War. His dislike of Americans was huge. But that’s another story.
I am not wanting to do this, but helping to plan ahead will be one thing required whether the option is taken up or not.
A truly long road ahead.
I’m sure many of us will have personal stories having had to attempt this with parents and the personal difficulties involved in the western world.

There used to be a large home on the ring road run by St.Mary's catholic church.Don't know if it's still open.

Here are links to a variety of nursing style homes in/around Udon. I'd suggest doing some homework by visiting those you might consider candidates......doing a good check on the level of care, the quality of the bedding/equipment, AC use, etc etc. From the two homes where I've visited patients in the past, the price per month was about the same for both (around 18-20k), but the quality of equipment and the overall feel was significantly different.

I'd appreciate it if you could post your observations from any visits to these homes.....for others to use.

In these trying times, you could explore the possibility of a live in nurse, many retire and have absolutely nothing to od, however you never know. Costs would be less I am sure and you know the quality of the food and amenities would be okay. The only sticking point would be accommodation I suspect

10 or so years ago, an American living in Udon has his very elderly mother here.....she soon had Alzheimer's. He arranged a room and 2 nurses, 12 hour shifts each to care for her at Wattana. He said her monthly social security covered the bills. Don't know how much the charges were, but it might be looking into

Any recommendations for an elderly American who needs 24/7 care in Udon? They used to have one in PK 5 which was 18k/month, not sure if it is still in operation. The Orchid on the NBLP Road, but don't know much about it?

I haven't been to either in over a year.....but the Udon Inter Nursing Home has a page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/%E0%B8%A ... 853862224/ The facility was small but all patients appeared to be receiving good care. A VFW member was there at the time. Beds and equipment were modern and facilities were very clean.
On my several visits to Orchid Nursing Home, I've left unimpressed. It was cheaper, but so was the equipment. I think Orchid has the option for private rooms (it was designed to be a hotel). It's possible they've done some upgrading over the past year. I'd take a look at both homes and do some comparison. The Orchid is located on the right hand side of the Udon-Nongbualamphu Hwy, at kilo 17. If you happen to visit either, an update on care/facilities would be appreciated.

I had driven past the one Parrot referred to Suksabai Home Care. Looks so nice from outside.

However seeing large rooms with say 6-10 beds lined up, is not what I expected. A clever developer should set up a premium place that looks like this but with 20 or 30 private apartments, nice grounds, and potential to expand as the business grows.

Totally agree rct .. for any forward thinking savvy developer with deep pockets such a facility in the right location would surely succeed and more so thereafter generate a brand and go provincial... hopefully just in time for me to move in :-"
