The USA will soon, from a new plant owned by Shell, be manufacturing over 1 million tons per year of plastic pellets.
Have some mates working on the construction now. In Pennsylvania at a cost of 10 billion USD.
I’m sure the majority of the plastics will supply industries that uses plastic and not be going to 1 use plastic bags.
But still a lot of plastic.

I have worked in a plastics producing facility and we had 121 different recipes for plastic. Plastic is plastic for sure but it is different
As to a facility at $10 Billion is pittance nowadays (Petrochemical, Oil, Gas, LNG, Ethylene etc)
Recently facilities have come in at 20-30-45-55- Billion USD with construction forces reaching 29,000 to 53,000 (yes 53,000)
In the end that's a lot of plastic bags

For my sins DM once worked in a plastics processing factory ..i was an extrusion tower operator turning plastic pellets into rolls of plastic films of vary grades mainly used in the food packing industry, its was a typical factory 8 hour 3 shift system but always OT n 12 hour shifts if wanted , even back then is was a very well paid job.

Already doing it in Carrefour stores over here, but only at 20% of the Check-outs.

How is this for a token effor by Carrefour - 25 Check-outs in total, with 20 No giving out plastic bags (as usual) and 5 No saying "No Plastic Bags", but you can buy a Brown Paper Bag is you wish?? =D> =D> :-k

Carrefour will find any way to make a Dollar out of it? =; =;

I discovered the merit of large and strongly stitched canvas bags. In South Africa in the mid eighties I used to bring back to UK 6 bottles of SA Cabernet Sauvignon each trip. I then went on to bringing back a 'slab' of Budweisers in trips from US.
i am proud to say that I still possess 7 bags, I always carry one with my smartphone and specs in, and always have a couple in the car. My regular tesco and 7 eleven stores all know me and await me handing the bag over. Been doing this for as long as I can remember.

Since TESCO banned plastic bags in Kut Chap, customers have carried their goodies out to the car in the green shopping baskets. Unfortunately a large number of customers have gone on step further and driven off with them. As a result there are virtually no shopping baskets at TESCO Kut Chap. The trolleys will be the next to go! :D

If they were at all serious they would be banning plastic bottles for water, soda, tea, milk, ... We get a 5' x 3' large bag full weekly which someone picks up.

Most people keep their plastic bags for garbage can liners, I still have a few years worth, then if not dead will have to buy the black ones, I guess.

all this plastic nonsense ? , people are good in inventing new things , instead of inventing something stupid why do not search to make a decent filter to keep the dangerous substances released by burning plastic ? ,so we can burn easy all the excessive plastic ....,but if succeed in this all those environmental idiots would have to find something else to fill up their time (and wallet) with ... ;)

They’re only a bag for life because they get chucked under the sink or left in the car & are rarely used again

Strange how you don't hear anyone complain about Makro not giving out plastic bags.
I keep my reusable heavy duty plastic bag (from the Royal project shop in the mall) in my car. I wheel everything out in the shopping cart and load it all in the trunk then transfer it all to the large shopping bag to haul into the house. I always keep a reusable shopping bag on my bicycle as well. It's not a really big problem and for the record European shoppers have been using their own reusable bags as well as small wheeled shopping carts for as long as I can remember without a whimper.

We used to use all plastic bags for our rubbish.
Now we are buying plastic bags for our rubbish.
Where's the benefit?

Critical analysis is a rare commodity on a lot of social media, mike - unfortunately UM is no different in that regard. ;)

Back in the 50s and early 60s our groceries were packed in paper bags, we took our lunch to school in paper bags with the sandwich wrapped in wax paper, and I believe our garbage was collected in paper bags. Milk and soft drinks came in glass bottles.
