A fella could earn some serious money every month with this happening
"“For example, if a person reports a vehicle emitting black smoke, the fine under the law is B1,000, and the informer will receive about B400,” he said."
3 a day x 400THB x 30 days a month is 36,000 THB a month
Then you have Offcences under the Land Transport Act B.E. 2522 (1979) include vehicles emitting black smoke exceeding the legal limits, carrying more than the registered number of passengers, parking across driveways or other places where parking is not permitted, carrying unrestrained loads and even smoking while driving.
Fines under the Land Transport Act range from B1,000-B5,000.

Phuket. Thailand's California.
But if an old fella can manage 8-a-day, he can fund his retirement here.

What do you think your chances are for survival if a local finds out you are the one who reported them?

Re: Get paid for Road violations
Would it be cynical to wonder if the rozzers would be expecting a cut from every reward?

They aren't involved. From the linked article:jackspratt wrote: ↑December 13, 2019, 11:49 amWould it be cynical to wonder if the rozzers would be expecting a cut from every reward?
“People can report offenders by calling the PLTO hotline 1584 or by email - but I prefer people in Phuket to send their reports by email to [email protected]"

Re: Get paid for Road violations
Interesting take on LAW compliance, get the Public to do the JOB the RTP are paid to do.
BY the way does anyone have any idea, on the new laws regarding points etc deducted and for what offences nad probable fines. I contacted my old guru and although he was helpful as he is now down SOUTH he is trying to keep himself alive .
So anyone with the current info on the NEW Licence points system and what offences will incur penalties, I am sure we would all be obliged `.

Had a similar idea many years ago where Gov. could provide a locked camera looking much like a standard dvr.
Go for a drive a couple of times a week, get paid $50 for each violation recorded, fund my retirement.
Where I live most of each year in Aus, there would be no problem getting a decent income.
Many rate the area as the worst drivers in the whole country.

Re: Get paid for Road violations
You may think I'm exaggerating, but down here in Houston Texas, you would make minimum $1,000 a day easily at $50 a pop, and that would just be for morning rush hour.bluejets wrote: ↑December 16, 2019, 6:59 amHad a similar idea many years ago where Gov. could provide a locked camera looking much like a standard dvr.

And you wouldn't even need to stray off the 610 loop either.Kenr6583 wrote: ↑December 16, 2019, 7:43 amYou may think I'm exaggerating, but down here in Houston Texas, you would make minimum $1,000 a day easily at $50 a pop, and that would just be for morning rush hour.bluejets wrote: ↑December 16, 2019, 6:59 amHad a similar idea many years ago where Gov. could provide a locked camera looking much like a standard dvr.

Re: Get paid for Road violations
With all these useless farang drivers on the Thai roads it's no wonder the locals are getting so p*ssed off with them constantly reversing into their front bumpers
Re: Get paid for Road violations
well, you can bet that the requirement of "having a Thai Bank Account" will be amended to say "and be a Thai Citizen." I seriously doubt expats are going to dip their snouts into this one. Plus it is a bit hazy about getting your reward since it seems to be "when the fine is issued." Well, that'd just be another ticket received in the mail and thrown in the trash, at least until the Department of Land Transport gets full integrated with the Royal Thai Police databases to ensure that when someone goes to get their tax medallion that they'll be forced to go to the cop shop and pay any outstanding fines first...

Will be interesting to see if the new so-called points system operates the same as down in Aus.FrazeeDK wrote: ↑December 16, 2019, 6:14 pmwell, you can bet that the requirement of "having a Thai Bank Account" will be amended to say "and be a Thai Citizen." Not speaking from experience here, just from what I've read.
Apparently demerit points are only applied if you pay the fine.
So, in theory, and I imagine in practice also, many wally drivers with fines up to their ears are still buzzing around the streets with zero alarms coming up on the police mobile computers.
