Guess a lot of flooding in Udon, Son's school yard flooded, road in front of school flooded, tomorrow no school. Maybe expecting more rain?

For the first time in 10 years had water coming under the door into my office. Fortunately 5 minutes later the rain abated and emergency furniture moves were cancelled. Water in the garden was about 20 cm deep. Down on the farm, all ponds overtopped their banks and met some of my fish in the field next door .......

Is this just another bit of bad weather or a welcome respite from worry about a shortage of available water? Is the local reservoir being filled and are local farmers now assured of good vegetable crops forthcoming?

The lake about 200 meters from my place ( Nong Ta ) has topped up nicely , nearly full .
Luckily we are about 10 meters above the lake , as more rain is forecast .
If they bothered to keep the drains clean , then i dont think Udon would flood at all.

Tropical Storm Podu headed our general area. If we're lucky it'll pause over Huai Luang, still very short of water.

Nailed it.

Instead of doing all of that housecleaning maintenance BEFORE rainy season, I saw the backhoes out in full force day before yesterday during a lull in the storms.

In the mean time here in the rice paddies of Ban Dung the effin idiots have decided to start bridge and road widening at the congested end of the "Salt Road" during the peak of the wet season = creating all sorts of problems. They did the same about 7 years ago rebuilding the 4 or so bridges along that road through the wet season.

WE NEED A BYPASS AROUND BAN DUNG not more 2nd - 3rd - 4th or NO quality at all road upgrades!

Huai Luang dam northwest of Udon shows 44% full as of today. That's up 12% in a week. This next storm might get it up another 20% or more. See the dam data here: http://www.thaiwater.net/DATA/REPORT/ph ... hp?lang=en

Our ponds are brimming.. Thank goodness the rain stopped for two days to let the accumulated water in our yard soak down.. Other folks in the neighborhood have water knee deep in their houses thanks to the regular raising of roads by the government merely makes them dams that trap water in some neighborhoods.. Its ironic that the government raises the roads to keep them higher to avoid the usual rain flooding on them and that just makes it worse for lots of folks...

Perhaps I'm reading the data wrong but it looks to me that Huai Luang reservoir has a current volume of 44 mcm and is at 32% of maximum storage level with 27% of the maximum volume being usable.

Thanks for including the link to the data report. Nice to be able to see how the rains are impacting our local water supply. Hopefully the volume will continue to increase.

The roads get built up to stop the road flooding
The land owners build up a long the road edge to stop the land flooding
Result duck ponds on the road again which makes the road base softer causing more potholes

When was the last time Thailand got rain from these storms? Will bet 2฿ after hitting Mts, it peters out and heads toward China.

Oh, we've gotten hit by lots of them. Yes, they tend to peter out after hitting the mountain ranges, sometimes altogether, but they've been known to dump plenty of rain.

before my time will guess. Seen a couple in past years and they did what I said. Just because it just might pour in the next week or 2, doesn't mean it came from that storm.

Just from the link you can see it is by passing Udon, and it has not even hit land yet.
