Post by choi choi » August 3, 2019, 7:37 pm

I have a large pond stocked with fish (Pla Nin)
Real big fish in it.But for the life of me cant catch the bleeders
Best I can get is small fish .even thats a ordeal!
Now the rain season I dug up some earth worms
They either snatch the bait, ignore it!
! sure ain't into fishing guys!
Just like bit of fish for tea!
A
Any ideas? ...No I wont go in water! I'm a pansy!

You might be over feeding the little buggers. Starve them for a few days and see how that goes …

sounds like the small fish are getting to the bait before the big ones, try a bigger bait that will stay on the hook longer and put a heavier weight on to get past the small ones and as mentioned, don,t feed them for a few days

Shrimp paste mixed with bread as hook bait. They go crazy for it.
Heavy float with weight closer to the hook should get the bait down past the small fry before they get the chance to have a go at it.. Failing that use the ledger method

Had the same problem with MIL’s pond, fish following her round waiting for pellet feed, she couldn’t catch them and is too old to use a cast net
I’m big into fishing but mostly sea / boat and river and not clued up on pond chucking
I was summoned to catch them for food and to sell
First Tried floating bread crust...ziltch , tried bread mash ziltch, worm just little pla nin and nothing else.... scratching head as too what to do...tried the pellet but breaks up on trying to get the hook in, so tried pellet mash in a ball round the hook....complete disaster as just hundreds of fry just bash the hell out of it and no hook ups!
An old dear in the ma and pa village shop told my wife after hearing the hilarious escapades of the daft farang Said...go to the early morning market and get some chicken intestine gut and put about 1/4 inch piece on as it’s tough so the little buggers can’t get it off easily but cause a commotion the bigger fish then are more interested and join in
Well I tried it and bingo ....bucket of decent size pla nin for dinner....now MIL is now the village expert 55555 and catches them on a bamboo pole and sells them outside her house!
May work for you and your fish worth a try as nothing too loose
But as a previous poster says...don’t feed em until after you’ve filled your bucket..good luck
