You'd be mad if living in farangland to be eating Kellogs cornflakes. I suppose if you're sick of rice in Thailand it's an option you might occasionally consider.

Jack Spratt "Like parrot, I am also curious - what is the "one item"?"

My post concerns the rate of price hikes here in Udon.

If you are interested in what that One Item might be, a suggestion is to go to Makro and ask what item has increased 114% in the past 1 1/2 years. A bit of detective work if you are really interested

An activity to get you fellas out of the house

In the absence of a sensible reply, I'll assume it's salt then ............ as in, "take it with a pinch of".

Well it was 29 Baht a Kilo and within days it is up to 30 at Makro
Then it has been a 114% Increase in just over a year starting at 14 baht
I guess I am in the wrong business
What's "one item"?

. . .
My guess is his feminine products.

On the matter of recession -- they're normal in free enterprise. Ebb and flow. Up and down.

I've noticed some smaller crowds at large local restaurants that I frequent in UTH, but the rest of Thailand seems to be doing a tad better -- Khon Kaen, ChM, Korat, Phitsanulok, etc.

IMO if someone actually wants the answer to the topic, he might search for the Thai government's definition of an economic recession and then whether recent financial data meets the Thai definition of a recession. Don't think that is of much interest to posters though.

Most posts discuss general rising prices. An analysis of the affect of the strong baht and other common cost changes might be a reasonable place to begin to look for an explanation for local price hikes. How has the foreign exchange rates of Thailand's chief sources for imports moved over the last year or two? How has the price of oil shifted (upward)? Has anyone noticed any change in tariffs or international trade agreements affecting Thailand? Have some or all Thai banks raised interest rates? For known reasons nations manipulate their economies to create a small annual national inflation; how about Thailand in this respect? And so forth and so on.
