yes, it was splashed all over social media and hit the Thai national news too.. Other than being a bit picturesque it certainly won't aid pedestrians since most motorists ignore pedestrian "stripes" and rarely yield to a walker.. Remember, if you drive down the road a bit near UD Town Tesco you'll see two sets of pedestrian stop lights that were installed when the IT Mall opened a while back (now its being rebuilt as a convention center). Pedestrians would push the button to cross and drivers would completely ignore the red lights...

This is going to be a total clusterf**k. I drove through yesterday and all the colors, concrete planters and crosswalk patterns make the entire intersection very confusing and distracting to motorists as they approach. Add to that the darkness of night and the pedestrian lights and it is going to be a recipe for disaster. Thai traffic will not stop for pedestrians and before long the pedestrians will be reluctant to trust the crosswalks, then they'll go back to crossing in the old areas with which they are familiar and feel safer. This will go the same way as the bicycle rental program and the bicycle path program....both total failures. The only people that benefit from these programs are the politicians that dream up these pet projects so that they can line their pockets with dirty money.
