Flu jab?

Post by vincemunday » October 14, 2017, 3:46 pm

Yesterday myself and the missus started to feel a bit achy and shivery, today we've developed a proper dose of flu, it's knocked us both for six and we've basically spent the day asleep, It's been years since I've had flu but this is absolutely vile, I don't know if the flu jab is available here but I'd wholly recommend you have it if it is, particularly if you're a bit older or disabled.

Crikey! Really? This is really nasty though, my wife is a right little toughie and she’s gone to the doctor.

Jab - Vit K or Normal Saline or ?????? , they love to charge for placebo jabs

Typical crap clinical care from Thai Doctors who treat the complaint and not the signs and symptoms.

Day 3 of this Flu, it's really dreadful and it's knocked us for 6, one of the kids in the Soi was taken to hospital with it yesterday, I've seen Tamiflu on sale but wouldn't swear to it being the real macoy but I would still recommend taking it if you can find the genuine stuff, particularly if you're older or infirm, this is quite nasty.

I have been poorly now for 12 days, treated with Lemsip at the start, but no effect. Went to Dr, got a set of 5, yes 5, tablets, little or no effect. Went back and said I was not improving and got another, completely different set of 4 tablets. These took effect immediately, stopped my runny nose, but still not 100% yet, little or no energy. He did offer the “jab” but I declined, I suspect it would be the same placebo that my Mil swears by. It seems very widespread in the village and surrounding area .

The flu shot does not give you the flu. I have been with thousands of people whom have had the shot and never heard of a problem.
Some may have a reaction as we are all different.
For those of you whom are now sick with the flu then it may have you think twice if it is really worth while and worth the money. Just go and get one when you are feeling better.
I have had at least 4 over the last 6 years and have not had a flu in that time. Common cold is different.
Good luck and don't listen to old wives tales that you will get the flu. Flu shot just helps the body provide anti bodies for the flu. The fluvax shot is upgraded each year for new strains, hence the yearly shot.

No, a flu shot cannot cause flu illness. ... The most common side effects from the influenza shot are soreness, redness, tenderness or swelling where the shot was given. Low-grade fever, headache and muscle aches also may occur

When I had the flu I took Tiffy tablets.
You can get them at any Pharmacy about 15 baht per packet of 4.
Found them excellent & flu symptoms gone in 2 days.
Lot better than Lemsip.
Couple of whiskeys or whatever your tipple is & 2 Tiffy tablets at night & you sleep really well.

Yeah my wife said that too, she says it doesn't suit everyone, I've stopped using the day and night tablets and gone back to lemsip powders in hot water, they're so much better.

So vince you started the thread as Flu Jab and suggested people get one.
Question then, are you and wifey going to get the flu jab or stick with taking tablets? Which wont be required if you have the said Jab?

I'll need to get over this first Barney but be rest assured that I'll be looking to get the jab, I seriously don't want to go through this again.

I guess my next question will be - has anyone found a place that does them?

I had mine done at Bangkok hospital, but didn't have to pay so don't know the cost. Was part of a annual employment medical and Vacc's update.
