Like many other things in Thailand, what may be true for you today is not true for you or me or anyone else tomorrow. I have 'em, I shoot 'em, and I love 'em. :D Insurance.

Why do people question why anyone wants a gun? Why would anyone want golf clubs, or footballs, or a bicycle? Recreation comes to mind. Target shooting, developing a skill or any other reason personal to the buyer. One might even consider self defense, yeah yeah, I know, from what or who. Maybe the buyer just wants one to live vicariously thru it while watching a war movie or a western or a crime movie.
To the buyer. I have a 4x Barska with mounts for 1500 TB.
I have a CMMG Mk 4, lots f fun to shoot.

The MM''CMMG is similar to the carbine I have, I believe? Why not have the Barska on that? Any idea if the mounts would fit on mine?

We had the CMMG before the junta took over. I had scoped it when I bought it. I just brought the Barska back from the US this week. I took it off another rifle there. I have Weaver bases and the narrow 22 type bases as well.

You cannot walk around with an M16 in Udon. That would be illegal. As a foreigner you will not be allowed to carry any kind of firearm around, license or no license. You or your wife can possibly get a license for protection of property but not for taking a gun outside of that. That is what I was told. An M16 or M4 as we have, is not something you can hide under your t-shirt.

@TAXIfor7/11
'JR' is correct, you can't hide an M16 under your t-shirt... what you need is an Uzi or something like that.
Personally, I like the Rock Island snub... ideal for close range.

Those butterflies can be really annoying at times. Maybe you have become one yourself now? And I hope you are in a better m ood these days. Guns and anger control problems are not good companions.
