Rain, where art thou?

Udon's water source still on 24%. Although we have had rain last 3-4 days, only a few millimetres until this evening - when we had a little more, maybe a centimetre.....

Rained heavy duty out in NaDi, and a bit more than 1 cm.

24 % ........ does that mean the city is doing a bit of rationing over there.???

Just measured my water rainfall bottle about 4 cms in the last 3-4 days. ground water up as the whole garden is sodden.
Not too bad but in honesty a bout of gentle rain for a few days more would be better.

Water rationing? How would that work?!!! (Do they even have a plan for Udon?). Mind you, haven't seen them watering the plants on the central reservations on the dual carriageways around town the last 3 weeks, but hardly necessary. We are making sure all our rainwater jars stay topped up; this year i think we may need them. Rain last 36 hours has had a visible affect on the ponds, but still a way to go.

Rain, where art thou?

My new Swiss neighbor installed a rain gauge on a piece of pvc pipe yesterday. I laughed at him..."Are you dreamin?". And on the way home from town yesterday, my wife spotted a small cloud in an otherwise blue sky and commented, "maybe it'll rain." I laughed again. And when we woke this morning, the ground was damp......so on the way to the temple, my wife brought an umbrella. I didn't laugh, but I considered it not necessary. By 8:30AM, I was wondering whether we'd need a boat to return home. My neighbor's rain gauge posted 2.25" of rain. At this time of the year, that's a big blessing!

Rain, where art thou?

In 2003/4 we had no rain to speak of until June, from October the previous year, the new garden landscaped dropped by two inches as the underground water was eroded due to lack of moisture. Since then we have had a reasonable amount every year some more than others. But not the amount required to keep the ground water topped up, so now we are reaping the loss of not only the ground water but also the rain .
partly due to the mis-management of water , luckily here we have a pretty good water management system , thereby ensuring that water seems to be available to most , not all in truth but most.
many people think that those that store water more than 2-3 thousand litres are silly, well maybe they are but I expect that they are not suffering now.
In any country where water supply is not statutorily maintained for the benefit of the population you must make your own provisions to maintain your supply if at all possible.
The number of new houses being built with little or no method of collecting the rain water in one of my pet hates as well as seemingly lack of waste water collection back into the ground generally seems to over the years spell disaster, where there was a system it has either been built over or blocked leading to localised flooding .

In truth the Thais are reaping what they sow, lack of any sort of water management is now showing itself up in lack of water for many people and the inability to manage farms which grow the foods the majority eat.

rain when it comes will be most welcome I am sure however as most of the first rainfall will disappear into the ether as the ground is too hard to absorb it, what we really need is gentle rain daily 8-10 hours for at least 10 dyas to stand any chance of rehyradting the ground and cooling down the locality.
