Whatever it is, it's waaaay above last year's levels, same time. I think Bob's read is correct....but I don't think I'd depict levels that way.

if the rain continues to roll in through October perhaps it'll get up to a 100 million or more cubic meters.. I'd rather see it close to max in the event we have another long dry season... It still would behoove the government to proceed with their planned Mekong pipeline down into Nong Bua Lamphu Province to the headwaters of streams that flow down to Ubol Ratana dam.. they could also use one from around Tha Bo down to the headwaters of streams that flow to Huay Luang resevoir too.. The Mekong still gets up to flood stage a number of times a year and those crests would be the time to tap into that water and get it down to the Issan dams...

Last Night from 22.00hrs until about 23.30 Very Strong Winds,& Heavy Rain on The Costa Del Mekhong.....But This Morning awoke to clear Blue & Sunny Skies....

That was a bit of luck then 747 .......... it's lights out at 21:00 every night at the Nong Khai home for senile old mongers so all your mates would have been home safe and sound :-"

After a few false starts earlier today, the skies opened up around kilo 18 at 2:50pm......buckets.....and still raining hard an hour later.

Sribunreuang and Bahn Peua got hit with high winds today......thought it was our turn at Kilo 18 late this afternoon. The sky turned black and the winds began to howl. Good solid rain, but the winds turned out to not be a factor.

a nearly one hour gully-whumper on the east side of town outside the ring road.. I sat out in our sala with our 3 dogs and cat watching it. The initial gusts of wind were huge bending three large stands of bamboo near the sala at about a 30 degree angle... I'm glad we got it, now things will green up for a few days!

No rain in Nong Wau Sor to speak of but very strong winds caused extensive property damage but thankfully no reports of personal injury to some villages in the Amphur during the night .
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

I kept pretty meticulous weather info on Udon for about 10 years.....until I became better acquainted with local weather patterns. I know it's possible to drop into the upper 30s in the winter and 105 in the hot season. I know it can can rain 13 inches in 6 hours and not rain for months at a time. That said, I can't say this is the rainiest March in the 20 years we've been here, but I'm guessing it is.

based on the TMD website we got 32mm thus far today. Add that to the 60+mm last week and over 50MM the week before that and this month is gearing up to be a "wet" month. I hope if presages a cooler and slightly rainy April and a good rainy season. It might even be the oft predicted gully-whumping flood season for Udon which I think hasn't happened in nigh on 14 years..

My byte brain cells tell me Aug 2001 was the year of the big flood. Loads of rain in the first 12 days of August, then the massive rain on 13 Aug. The same thing happens in a variety of places in Thailand every year....the storm lingers over one area for an extended period.
