Rain, where art thou?
Re: Rain, where art thou?
then again, I'm sure the Ring Road flood control was designed for a smaller Udon. With rampant development throughout Amphoe Muang filling in land left and right it is likely there will be a lot of surprises when the big one hits... Just in our area east of the horse racing track dozens of houses have been built meaning dozen of rai were filled and raised. This caused a number of roads to flood in the last couple of years. The fix?? Raise a number of roads by 60cm so they don't flood. Unfortunately the dozens of houses along that road now border what is essentially a dam so their houses in a heavy rain fill up with water as do many of the lower side roads. When (not if) the deluge hits it will be a sight to see.

Re: Rain, where art thou?
In the past week we've racked up over 7" of rain at kilo 18. 2" here, another 2" then 1" several times. On top of all the rain we had in March and April, we seem to be way ahead of the curve this year.
I'm not complaining!

Re: Rain, where art thou?
Personally I'm getting a bit concerned, the canals haven't been kept clear in our area and the water has risen very high, to within a couple of feet of the top, I think if we get much more we might be in a little bit of trouble. Another problem is the damage it's done to the roads, we already had some pot holes, these have multiplied and got much deeper, fingers crossed.
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

I live in Nong Hin, Loei. We have had several months worth of rain in just the past several days. We are at about 1,000 feet above sea level here, so no major problems. I'd guess that some lower areas are under water and the rain doesn't look like it is finished.
Re: Rain, where art thou?
Rained ALL Last night in Nong Khai from around 6.00pm,Still raining this morning with Very Heavy rain for a couple of hours from around 1.00pm Until 3.00pm....NO Floods yet, But at least I Don't need to water the garden,Or fill up the Pool Reckon it put about 3 Inchs in the pool...
Re: Rain, where art thou?
Its been raining on and off about every 30 minutes today until 6pm when the heavens just opened. No wind, no T&L just huge amounts of water falling. Thank the Lord I was not driving. Lasted about 45 minutes. Seen some of the local farmers getting prepared for rice planting today. Thats nearly a month earlier than last year.

I've been making the wife drive in this rain. Good experience for her.

Time to get this thread back on track for 2018:
Around 2:30 PM today the sky at kilo 18 darkened, thunder, then sideways rain and howling winds, first from the north, then from the south. We lost a 10+ year pine and our Swiss neighbor lost a large tree as well. Power stayed on! We watched things go down.....literally....from our covered porch.
Earlier in the week we took down two old trees that were leaning toward our house. The pine that fell today fell away from our house. No damage done and we'll have a ton or two or nice pine logs to landscape with.

Parrot I suppose no chance of recue for the tree?
Reading your old posts its almost to the day that rain fell heavily in UT last year, seems to be a pattern there?

Barney, I don't think we'll even try lifting a 30' tall tree. No problem, we have plenty more in our yard.
As for May, along with last year's storms in May, I was back in the US in early May 2016 when the UD Town/St Mary's storm blew through Udon. So, yes, big storms are not uncommon in May. From the news, Khonkaen got blasted with high winds and sideways rains yesterday.
